Came across this old newsletter in the process of re-filing

the contents of the computer. There must be easier ways to do this!

I don't know if ticks are repelled by the same things as mosquitoes.

And maybe you'll get plagued by feline nip heads instead...

Grow your own mosquito repellent

and other hints for living with the bugs of summer.

Summer time is bug time.

With the increase in mosquitoes carrying West Nile

virus more people are reaching for the insect repellents

like DEET.

You might want to reach for natural catnip instead.

NEWS RELEASE FROM THE AMERICAN CHEMICAL SOCIETY:

Catnip Repels Mosquitoes More Effectively Than DEET.

Washington herbalist Ann Lovejoy created this recipe for bug spray.

________

CATNIP MOSQUITO SPRITZ

MAKES ABOUT 3 CUPS

2 cups catnip, stemmed

3-4 cups mild rice vinegar

Rinse herbs, roll lightly with a rolling pin, then place them in a clean

quart jar and cover with vinegar.

Seal jar and store in a dark cupboard for two weeks.

Shake jar lightly every day or so for two weeks.

Strain into a clean jar, seal and refrigerate for up to 6 months unused.

To use, spritz on exposed skin and around outdoor dining area.

_______

In case you get stung by a wasp or other mean critter,

a few drops of Sangre de Drago will take away the sting

and the swelling.

I was stung on the sensitive area just below the eye last

year. Ouch! A few drops of Sangre de Drago instantly took

care of 90% of the pain and swelling . Some soothing drops of

Recovazon Gel did the rest.

Enjoy the summer and play safe!
