This is not TCM, but I got rid of bursitis in the hips with castor

oil packs placed over the area. A heating pad went on top of the

castor oil pack. I just pour some castor oil on some folded fannel,

put a towel over the pack (so the heating pad won't get oily), and

put the heating pad over the towel. Leave in place at least an hour

and a half at a time. I slept with the pad on my hip as I have a non-

electric heating pad.

Castor oil packs are contraindicated for women who are having their

periods and for people with cancer.

They relieve inflammation and fight infection.

Hi Victoria,

I know it's not TCM, and it doesn't sound like normal bursitis which

happens within the joint usually, but that's what " they " diagnosed

it as.

As I said, it appears as a large painless bump around SP-5, filled

with fluid. Do you have any ideas? What about lancing it?

Thanks,

Blaise

I've experimented with using castor oil packs (and heating pads) over

acupoints, and sometimes it's worked very well.

Castor oil packs work very well for inflammation. Also, one of the

things they do is to promote lymph flow in the area, helping the body

to rid itself of accumulations of toxins (as well as fight infection

when it's present).

The castor oil packs have not worked on all cases of bursitis (and I

don't know enough to be able to predict when they will or won't

work). But when they do work, the results can be dramatic. They

worked a lot better for me than the prescription NSAID (Non-Steroid

Anti-Inflammatory Drug) I was placed on and had a bad reaction to and

had to stop. The next step for me was a cortisone shot into the

joints " which may or may not work depending on the skill of the

doctor " and " yes, it is painful " . The castor oil packs are cheap to

try. The main drawback is they are messy. And they are

contraindicated for women who are having their periods and for people

with cancer.

Bursitis just means a swelling or inflammation!. I guess your Doc was

thinking of Steroid injection, this is used very frequently by the medical

profession especially in cases of RA or OA. With swelling on or near a joint

(unless it is broken), a cold compress is just as good and indeed without

having powerful drugs injected into you.

I had bursitis in my shoulder and I went to my chiropractor, he used

ultra sound on it. Do everything you can to boost your immune system.

Your body will heal itself if you give it time and a good immune

system. Those shots the doctor wants to give you are really not good

for your body in a whole.

Best Wishes

Herbal Remedies - Bursitis

I've just been told I have bursitis in my right hip and both shoulders. I've done some studying on the subject, but was wondering what herbal remedies I could start to ease the problem. Doctor wants to start shots in hip and shoulders. I really don't like that idea. Would much rather try natural remedies first.Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi, all -- I was recently diagnosed with bursitis (thickening of the

bursa, according to the ultra sound which was done). I have been

resting the shoulder, right one unfortunately, and have just had a

steroid injection into the bursa (not the best choice, but I felt the

only one at this time, as surgery probably isn't a promising option,

and I don't want it anyway). I was fine for the first week, and now

8 days after the injection. My shoulder is in worse pain than ever;

I can't lift anything, can't even brush my teeth or chop veggies for

dinner.... Anything weight bearing, forget it. Anyway, will

something like MSM and/or glucosamine chondroitin help, and at what

dosage rates/strengths? I ice it, as heat seems to be aggravating

now, and I am also tending up against the pain, which is causing

muscle spasms in my neck and shoulder (which my husband helpfully

massages out, and I also have a small TENS unit which my chiropractor

showed me how to use).

Thank you in advance.

Kind regards

Andrea

Hi Andrea,

Bursitis is also an inflammation of the bursa as well, and

irritation. I'm glad your chiro gave you the tens unit. I would

also suggest that acupuncture might be helpful.

In my clinic (i'm the office manager for a wellness center, with 2

massage therapists, an acupuncturist and 2 chiropractors) we've had

several people who get cortizone shots, and are better for a few

days, and then the pain comes back worse faterwards. I't snot

uncommon at all, but each patient says " i swear, the pains worse,

please believe me! " . Acupuncture would help with the pain management

and also assist in healing the tissues. I'd also see your chiro

regularly. The other thing that has worked for different issues for

me, is Traumeel. It's a product by " HEEL " (the company) and i have

taken it both internally and externally as a cream or gel. The

liquid drops have worked the best, and bryonia (a homeopathic remedy)

is also good for pain with movement.

You are right to ice it, heat will aggrivate the inflammation. Or at

least cooler temperatures. I'd definitely try some acupuncture and

if you can get your hands on the Traumeel, it'd be a great idea,

internally and externally! Also, some bioflavenoids might help too,

with the inflammation

My best to you!

Dear Shirley,

For immediate relief, he should do Hot and Cold on the area.

Start with 7 minutes of an Ice Pack on the area and then 7 minutes with

a heating pad.

Alternate these two, three times each. Immediate pain relief can be

found by using Arnica Gel as found in the Healthfood Stores.

For lasting results, you'd want to also use my Deep Tissue Repair Oil

and Doc Christopher's BF & C = Bone, Flesh & Cartilage Formula.

These can be gotten from: Http://www.OrganicSolutionsStore.com

Nowwwwwww, please realize that he got himself into this condition by

violating my three laws of disease, in the area of Nutrition, Exercise

and Medicines.

1. He's been doing something he shouldn't be doing.

2. He's not been doing something he should be doing.

3. Orrrrr, he's doing both of these at the same time.

Even doing the above herbal regimen, he'd speed up his healing by about

300% if he were to do some serious cleansing to get his body " nontoxic " .

Love,

Doc
