Guest guest
Hello all. I am writing to ask a question. I am severely depressed and it is to the point that I need to get some type of therapy NOW before I sink any deeper. I want to do something involving NO DRUGS! I am and have been taking supplements to help me such as flaxseed and evening primrose oil. I am still trying clean up and maintain my diet. Has anyone tried acupuncture for depression or anything else like that? Shawntaye
Guest guest
Try SAM-e, it helped my daughter. she was on antidepressants and managed to get off them. Some people take St. John's wort and it has helped some also. Siberian ginseng helps with stress and ashwaganda will help with energy. Guest guest
Try zinc and magnesium, st john's wort, lots of water, i had depression for years, refused to take chemicals and found a doc that was open to alternative therapies-it was a hard battle, seek help but look objectively at what you can change in your life style that contributes to your depression and address those problems, confide in one or two understanding friend that can help when you are really low, but don't over burden them as you will need their help on the odd day when you just can't cope, diet is a huge factor, meditate and keep busy , not idle and rest when you feel energy defeated. HYpnosis is an option, and those that deal in past trauma that has been unaddressed and probally forgotten in the concious mind, alot of it is hormonal and a hard road to travel but treated as though it will just go away on it's own is foolish, you have alot of great experiences ahead of you , don't blow it by forgetting your mood swings-i thought it would just go away like the flu and hit rock bottom and became a basket case, lived alone in the bush with a 14 yr old daughter that had to force feed me and treat me like a child to get me to eat, if i'd keep it down, till i gathered myself and climbed the ladder, rung by rung whilst tied up, gagged and blind folded untill i got somewhere near the top, can't claim i'm over it but I know the signs and make sure i eat well , drink water and rest, if i feel i can't stay on a level ground i go have a chat with a professional, which usually makes me feel a bit silly as i don't feel I need to but having that option open to me and they have some knowledge of my depression makes me feel a bit safer not so alone or so crazy. It is a more common problem than realised - i am somewhere close to the tale end of my depression, going thru menopause which contribued alot to my Insanity for want of a better word but at times i thought I was loosing the plot and had no faith I'd find it again but believe me you CAN DO IT. If you really don't feel you can cope without meds then find a doc you have faith in but only if you feel your life is threatened, i've seen the results of those that have taken anti depressants and those that don't, every one is an individual and you are to judge for yourself-it is hard to get off the drugs but in some cases it could be right for you -it wasn't for me but it took alot longer to come back to base, -if you use marajuana or smoke tobacco-------give it up, it it interferes with the chemicals in the brain-I am in my 50's and know keeps of people that smoke dope , the one's that are heavy smoker's have all sorts of anxiety and depression problems eventually- they also trick themselves, that they need the smoke to stay calm whist they tell you how freaked out they are and also how broke they are, i'm not saying smoking dope is bad for you asi t has a lot of benefits but in the cae of depression-it has alot to do with the chemicals in the brain. and how they effect the mood. Tobacco on the other hand will keep you strung out again tricking you to feel calm-10 mins later you are strung out again as well as poisoning your entire body and brain. also indulge in a hobby that you have always wanted to so you can feel you are achieving something each week and it's your time out.---good luck an stay happy-----even try laughter groups-i knoe it al sounds crazy and over board but laughter is documented to improve moods and health-a chemical is released-if you can't get a class -do it alone or with a friend-you may feel like a prize turkey but you'll feel better than a sad sack. do whatever it takes--depression can ruin your life, your relationships, your health, your work, and is life threatening---good luck --stay happy! Love and hugs.xxx dontae980 <dontae980 wrote: Hello all. I am writing to ask a question. Guest guest
Shawntaye, I am holding you in my thoughts and prayers seeing you quickly finding the support and relief you need. I think you are wise to look for a drug-free approach to relieving depression. I have used accupressure very successfully. My chiropractor would do accupressure to the depression points in my ears. You can even try rubbing or lightly pinching the top tips of your ears - seems too easy but it really works. I now use essential oils to support emotional balance - there are many that work almost immediately. You can contact me off line if you would like some specific recommendations on oils that I like to use. I have struggled with depression most of my life, but since learning about essential oils almost 4 years ago have had only several very minor bouts, which are easily resolved by inhaling the oils. Essential oils work effectively because they travel up the olfactory nerve (in the nose) directly to the limbic region of the brain which is the emotional center. Some people will notice a subtle shift in emotions within seconds of smelling an oil. It's all natural and it's really good for you. My website has some info in an article called " 101 uses for the essential 7 kit " - reference the oils of Joy, Peace & Calming, Lemon, Lavender or Peppermint at www.EnergeticEssentials.com <http://www.EnergeticEssentials.com> . Of course, if you have circumstances in your life that are direct contributors to your depression, the physical and emotional response you are having is a call to action on your part. Unfortunately, there is no drug or natural remedy that can replace a need to address what is and is not working for you in your life. Remember, there is nothing to fear but fear itself - taking appropriate actions to improve your quality of life will help you feel better even in the first few steps. Best wishes. Hope to hear from your smiling spirit very soon. Nancy Gouch , " dontae980 " <dontae980 wrote: > > > Hello all. I am writing to ask a question. Guest guest
Quantum Biofeedback is what I use for depression. The Neurolinguists Program or NLP balanced the Neurotransmitters, emotions etc. Depression comes from an imbalance of Serotonin, Norepranephrine and dopamine. The Biofeedback helps with stress which can cause depression and a handful of other therapies to help balance hormones, brain waves etc. Jenny Kernan Quantum Biofeedback Therapist www.quantumassociatesofutah.com --- dontae980 <dontae980 wrote: > > Hello all. Guest guest
Exercise (even though I know you don't feel like it), yoga and Qigong are some of the best methods to get your chemicals flowing. I know some people have taken St. Johns Wort, it's actually a very old method of treating depression. Chemically, it is similar to a MAO inhibitor, so you do need to be careful with it. Just because it's " natural " does not mean it's safe to fool around with. Talk to a naturopath. I tried it but it honestly did not do much for me. One of the interrelated issues with depression is sleep. If you are not getting quality sleep it really makes a difference. I also tried accupuncture and massage. Success is totally unique to the individual and unfortunately nothing works super fast, like you need it to. I've been there. I've battled depression off and on for 15 years. When I went through chemotherapy two years ago, I agreed to try a new drug. I tried a couple that didn't work (I didn't care for the side effects) which is a whole different story. Anyway, I found a drug that works and for the first time in a long time, I feel good. I have also been exercising, doing yoga and practicing meditation. What started me on the meditation thing was a really awesome interactive computer program. You wear these sensors on your fingers and the program guides you through meditating and focusing exercises. You can actually make things happen on the screen based on your bodies ability to relax. It's the coolest thing. Anyway, that program, a self hypnosis program and these cd's that I have discovered that play tones behind music. I listen to them when I meditate. The tones are in a range that trigger the brain to relax. I find them very helpful, especially when I'm meditating. There is also a machine out there and I forget what it's called but it works on the same principle where you listen to the tones and wear glasses that show patterns of light. I looked into it and there has been some real promising research into using light & sound patterns for motivation, enhancing learning & creativity, etc. Anyway, I'm blabbering. So, talk to a professional, connect with a group and breathe. Hang in there...it will get better. dontae980 <dontae980 Wednesday, March 7, 2007 8:47:17 AM Severely Depressed Hello all. Guest guest
there was a lot of good advice on this. SAM-e is very powerful and fast-acting. It is required to create neurotransmitters. Synergistic compounds are Mg, ALC, glutamine, 5-HTP, and DLPA. SJW acts similar to antidepressants in that it appears to block reuptake of serotonin and dopamine. Depression is such a broad term and both a disease and a symptom of other diseases. Many people forget oxygen is probably the best antidepressant available. You may wish to try HBOT. Also milk of magnesia is great as it clears the colon of bad stuff, and provides mg and oxygen. Don't overdo it though!!!!! matt www.icuhealthy.com Now that's room service! Guest guest
Hi, There are actually several techniques used by psychotherapists and also as self-help tools that are thought to use the body's subtle energy system - as does acupuncture - to create change in emotions, thoughts/beliefs, and some physical symptoms. The most popular and perhaps easiest to use as a self-help tool is called Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT). I'm a psychotherapist myself and have used this technique for several years and have found it EXTREMELY effective. I recommend you find a therapist experienced in " energy psychology. " If you're really depressed, it's worth seeing a professional who can help you in many ways including helping you get the most from energy-based psychological healing. EFT requires that you focus your thought on an issue while stimulating acupunture points by tapping with fingertips. A therapist can help you determine what issues you should focus on. Write me back with any questions and good luck. Mark Bottinick, LCSW-C _______________ Find what you need at prices you’ll love. Guest guest
Hey there ! For those who suffer from depression, take homoeo medicine Natrum Mur - 1000c - 3 drops in the morning in empty stomach in every Monday and Thrusday for four weeks. You will be as fresh as you were. Guest guest
Hello Shawntaye, Congratulations on having the strength to seek answers and help for yourself! You should be commended on this step! Pride yourself on that! I have had great luck myself with acupuncture for anxiety, stress and depression. I frequently have anxiety and panic attacks...and acupuncture has been a lifesaver for me. Oftentimes i feel so much calmer just after one treatment. My TCM also advises help with diet, which includes eating whole grains for breakfast (not bread, but literally a bowl of brown rice, barley, oat groats etc). I would definitely advise you to seek out an acupuncturist! Best of luck to you, my thoughts are with you, Sarah Anne , " dontae980 " <dontae980 wrote: > > > Hello all.
