HELP! Armour thyroid questions....

I have been on syntroid for 2-3 years and today I was switched to

Armour of 60 mg. With Syntroid I was taking 100mcg therefore, with

Armour, I am given 60 mg today. Now my questions are, should I start

this high dosage of 60 mg of Armour after being on 100mcg of

Syntroid? Or should I take half of the Armour once a day only which

will equate to almost 30 mg? Or should I take it half of 60 mg in

the morning then finish the other half in the afternoon? I have

never taken ARmour before but most of the sites I read, docs would

prescribe 30 mg to start then gradually increase it over time.

A little background: my endo and or it's nurse pract. didn't want to

prescribe Armour because of what they believed, so Syntroid is the

standard prescription for most patients. However, being on synt all

this time, I have always have these lingering symptoms that do not

go away even if my endo increases my dosage. My symptoms are chest

pain/pressure, numbing, tingling (left) fingers, to my left leg to

left toes. I also have brain fog which makes it very difficult for

me to concentrate let alone remember things. I can't sleep well,

often tired, gaining weight for no reason despite proper diet, and

exercise. I also take vitamins and B12 supplements in the afternoon

making sure that my synthroid presciption has been in my system for

many hours. I take my synt. early in the morning then my vitamins

like Synergy Version 10 in the afternoon for a pick me up energy.

I have also been tested for cortrosyn stim test which came

back " normal " , but knowing that it is normal, I don't always rely

on those blood test results. I learned that the hard way. My endo

said that since my cortrosyn test is normal there is not much to do

with my adrenals, etc. but to keep taking the syntroid and come back

4-6 weeks later for more blood work.

Now, my internist who is not reluctant at all to prescribe Armour

told me that if something doesn't work then patients should have the

choice to reach for another medicine or help. So today, I received

my Armour of 60 mg from my internist and not from my endo. I've

asked if I need to cut down on my syntrd med, but I was told to stop

it all at once then start armour tomorrow at 60 mg. No weaning off,

just stop the old and start a new prescription regime.

For anyone who has the same experience or if you could help with

advice or suggestion, please feel free to reply. Should I be concern

of this sudden change? Should I take all the 60 mg at once in the

morning or should I cut it in half to take half in the morning then

the other half in the afternoon? Or should I just take 30 mg once a

day for 2 weeks then increase it to 60 mg a day?

Thank you for your time,

Mrs. A

I know the dance well. Back in the late 1980's I, too, suffered from fatigue,

dizziness,

unclear comprehension, etc., etc. I was started on Synthroid, as well as B12

shots, diet

restrictions and lots of other procedures and suggested procedures. Through the

hand of

Spirit I was guided to an MD who, after trying all she knew in her bag of tricks

(and

sending me out to specialists including an Endo), it was apparent that my

symptoms were

not improving as hoped. It was then that my MD suggested I see a homeopath

because

" homeopathy helps many people " . At that point I had NEVER EVEN HEARD of the

word, let

alone understood what this might be all about. Happily the RN in this doctor's

office was

also a homeopath. I saw her; she took extensive case notes, and at the end of

two hours

of consultation, she gave me some tiny pellets to place under my tongue while I

sat in the

waiting room. The rest, as they say, is history.

Regular appointments with my homeopath over the next couple of years brought me

to a

place where I was able to get off of the Synthroid--my thyroid healed itself. I

am now not

only healed and vibrant these many years later, I am also a practicing homeopath

myself

(the magic of the cure, my gratitude, driving curiosity and my Inner Voice

prompted me to

do so).

I know that there are many times when I respond to a post here at this site

suggesting that

locating a homeopath in your area could very well be the answer to what might

appear to

be an acute condition, but which is actually a more deeply seated constitutional

condition.

Homeopathy works its healing from the inside out. It works to right and balance

all

systems of the body; to bring the entire body back to homeostasis.......into

balance. We

look at health as not an absence of symptoms, but as the promotion of overall

vitality

matched with a joie de vivre.

I hope this helped you.

Armour Thyroid, My mother and I have found with our

clients, actually nourishes the thyroid whereas

Synthroid will eventuallly destory and shut down the

thyroid. Because they are so vastly different I would

follow what you have been told to take. Then watch for

a difference and readdress the dosage after you have

adjusted to the Armour. None of our client have the

issues with Armour that you have mentioned with the

Synthroid. Then also you may want to get a health scan

via Quantum Biofeedback and find what really is going

on energetically in the body and go from there to

correct the issues that create the symptoms you speak

of.

Cathy, I loved reading your story!

I once overheard 2 wholistic MDs discuss the various

modalities they worked in. They were using whole-food

supplements, powerful herbs, several energy techniques,

and Homeopathy.

They agreed that IF one can find exactly the right remedy,

nothing else is quite as powerful as homeopathy.

I also gathered that it is not always simple to find exactly

the right remedy.

As far as I understood it really requires a visit in person.
