Lemon is the best home remedy for cold. One Lemon should be diluted in a glass of warm water. A teaspoon of Honey should be added to this water. One should take this drink twice a day. Use of Garlic, ginger and turmeric are highly valuable during cold. Cough is caused due to distraction in the air passages of lungs by cells, secreting mucus. It may be caused by inflammation of the larynx or the pharynx. Grape juice mixed with a teaspoon of Honey is an effective home remedy to treat cough. Almonds are also useful. Seven pieces are soaked in water overnight. Then the brown skin is removed and a paste is made. This paste should be taken twice a day. Constipation is a common disturbance of the digestive tract, leading to difficulty in elimination of the hard faecal matter. Fruits like bel, Grapes, Pears, Guava, Orange and Papaya are beneficial in the treatment of constipation. Dandruff refers to the condition of the skin wherein shiny, silvery scales separate from the scalp and collect amidst the hair. The use of Fenugreek seeds is the most effective remedy in the treatment of dandruff. Two tablespoons should be soaked overnight in milk or water and grounded into a fine paste in the morning. This paste is applied over the scalp for half an hour. Then the hair is washed with lime water and soap-nut (ritha) solution removing stickiness and prevents dandruff. Headaches are caused by temporary upsets and are not related to organic changes in the brain. There are various remedies from headaches varying from the types of headaches. For nervous headache, a herb called marjoram is beneficial. For headaches resulting from cold, Rosemary is boiled in water, then the head is covered with a towel and the patient inhales steam. Cinnamon is useful in headaches caused by exposure to cold air. Its paste is applied to obtain relief. Apples and Lemon are valuable in all types of headaches. Diarrhea is characterized by more than three watery stools in a single day. The most effective home remedy for diarrhoea is Buttermilk. It is taken with a pinch of salt three or four times a day. With this a teaspoon of boiled Fenugreek seeds fried in butter is also taken. One of the best remedies is fresh or dry ginger taken along with rock salt. If the patient develops weakness, Pomegranate juice is taken on account of its astringent properties. White rice with curd is valuable in diarrhea. Low Blood Pressure refers to the fall in blood pressure below normal. Beetroot juice is an effective remedy for blood pressure. Indian spikenard is another effective home remedy. It should be taken in doses of 30-40 grains with a pinch of Camphor and Cinnamon. Until the blood pressure reaches normal the patient should take salty foods and half a teaspoon of salt in water daily. High Blood Pressure is caused by the increasing industrialized and metropolitan environments, due to which mental and physical pressures are caused. Garlic is an effective means of lowering blood pressure. Indian Gooseberry (amla) is another effective remedy for high blood pressure. A tablespoon of fresh amla juice mixed with Honey, should be taken every morning. Lemon, a rich source of vitamin, is essential for preventing capillary fragility. Rice is a prefect diet for high blood pressure. Anaemia is caused due to a fall in the quantity of haemoglobin. Vitamin B12 cures anaemia. It is found mainly in animal protein. Other remedies are Beets, Fenugreek, Lettuce, Spinach, Soyabean, Almond, Honey and Sesame seeds. These have a rich source of iron. Arthritis means inflammation of the joints. It is a chronic disease process and occurs in the form of Osteoarthritis and Rheumatoid Arthritis. Potato juice and other raw juices are considered to be a successful biological treatment for arthritic conditions. To prepare Potato juice, cut a medium sized Potato into thin slices and place them in a large glass of water overnight. The cabbage leaf is both soothing and antiseptic, also having the ability to draw out toxins from the skin. The poultice can also be used to help soothe harsh coughs. To make a cabbage poultice: remove the ribs from the greenest leaves, Soak in warm to hot water to soften the leaves. Crush with a rolling pin, then wrap the area using a bandage or cling wrap to hold the cabbage in place. This can be left for a few hours. Egg whites can also be used to soothe the skin. Beaten egg whites can be spread on minor burns, sunburn or nappy rash. It is an old remedy used not just for burn relieve but also sprains and whitlows. Egg whites can also be used to soothe the mucous membranes of the stomach or bowel, for heartburn, indigestion, constipation or diarrhea. Carrots are a highly nutritious vegetable with great restorative properties. Carrots can bring relieve to both constipation and diarrhoea. It can be used to expel mucus from the chest. A raw carrot poultice can be used to help the speed healing of wounds, varicose ulcers, burns, whitlows, boils, and abscesses. A broth made with half a kilogram of carrots to a litre of water, blended is good for chilblains, chapped skin, cold-sores and soothing itching from eczema. Olive oil has long been considered the healthy oil. But its use can go further than salad dressing. Olive oil has a soothing effect so it can be used for wind, indigestion, heartburn, gastritis, peptic ulcers and constipation. It can help relieve harsh dry coughs, laryngitis and croup. Skin irritations can also be soothed with olive oil, being useful for conditions such as eczema, chapped skin, cold sores and cradle-cap. A few drops of warmed oil dropped into the ear can help soften wax of a blocked ear. A liniment can be made with garlic and olive oil by putting crushed garlic cloves in some oil. The liniment then can be used for joint pains, neuralgia and sprains. Garlic, which has antibiotic properties, has always been considered a great cold and flu remedy. Crushing 4-6 cloves and mixing into a jar of honey can make up a cough mixture. The garlic can later be filtered off. This can be used to help ward of colds, when you feel one coming on.
