Hi Scott,

Yes, peppermint, basil and oregano all come from the same family, Lamiaceae. Basil is considered carcinogenic and hepatotoxic due to its high estragole content and therefore is not used as an essential oil in aromatherapy or massage. So you might with to not eat quite so much basil. Oregano oil is a moderate skin irritant and contains thymol and carvacrol. Peppermint and spearmint are toxic to the liver (in high dosages like you were using not that you were using high concentrations but using it a lot) because they contain pulegone which metabolizes to epoxides in the liver. There are many other herbs, sage, thyme etc. that have similar properites to the mints due to the fact that they are all in the same family and all have similar constituents.

A liver flush would not hurt as would a complete body cleansing but it is possible that you might have to forego all basil, mints, oregano, thyme and sage for who knows how long. Give your body time to detox, do a lot of fasting, cleansing, changing your diet to a raw food diet and slowly begin to add these herbs back in in about a years time and see how well your body accepts them.

HTH,

Don Quai
