Hi Maureen,

 

You want to collect them just as they begin to fall from the trees. This way most of them are turning black and a few are still green. But they are still good at this point. Wait too long and they get really ....well, it is really wet here so they get really mushy and gooky.

Is there a certain time one collects hulls or can I ask my neighbor if Ican go find any that are now laying around under the trees in his yard? I understand he has black walnut trees, I wouldn't know one to see itthough.

Yes, just make sure you're using the hull.
