I agree, this is how I wash alot of my clothes also - and, if you need something in the dryer for static electricity - try crunching up a piece of aluminum foil - I use about a 2 foot piece - and throw it in the dryer - there is NO static electricity - I really love that. Hope that helps.

Yes it can - it becomes very small tho - start out with a baseball size and very soon it is golf ball size. I have heard people change it every six months or so.
