Herbal Remedies - Weight loss question...

Carrie Ann - A few years ago I lost a lot of weight during a stressful divorce and illness. What helped me the most was exercise. I joined a health club. It took a couple weeks (at least) before I could lift anything heavier than 5 lb. weights, but eventually worked up to 40 lbs. Just eating a healthful diet and this exercise regime brought good health back to me in a short time. My best to you. Lou

Ummmm.....does anyone know if there is anything that can be done about sagging skin when a great deal of weight is lost? Any way to get rid of it other than surgery???

Ok, I just did some further research...

First of all, congratulations on your weight loss! This is a tremendous step toward improving your health! Unfortunately, the excess weight stretched your skin. While the skin has some amount of resilience, there is not much you can do to reverse this bagginess.(in large amounts of weight loss) "Toning up" refers to improving muscle tone (not the skin itself) through exercise, and weight lifting is best as it increases the size of your muscles which will decrease the baggy appearance somewhat, but since muscle weighs more than fat, be prepared for the possibility that the scale may tip up a bit, although you are becoming more fit and your body will look better, even if you do have some sagging skin.

I'm curious about losing sagging skin too. I've been told there is absolutely nothing that can be done about it short of surgery. I really have a nasty problem on my stomach and upper arms. Elephant skin to be exact. I can understand where exercise will help, but we are talking Dumbo ears of hanging flesh here. I'd have to look like Popeye in order to stretch it all out. Maybe age comes into play here too and I just waited too long to get skinny and my skin is no longer elastic enough to expand and contract. I'm wondering if oils could be of benefit, or rubbing with a skin brush. Someway of getting rid of the old and hopefully then new doesn't grow back where it isn't needed.

OK here is my .02 worth - If you have any scarring such as stretch marks Calendula infused in olive oil will soften and fade the scarring and there is something else you can add to the oil which will help increase the elasticity in the skin and help tone it up somewhat but it escapes me for the moment. Someone pass the Gingko and in the meantime if I have a few moments before work I will go through some of my recipes and see if I can find it.

That made me remember something else about skin in general - I believe

wholeheartedly in plenty of moisturizer for the skin. Any cream will do it

(preferably homemade!). Using a cream on the abdomen will probably prevent,

or at least, minimize pregnancy stretch marks. I cream my whole body after

each shower. Lou

Hey all...good info!! I still have some weight to lose, but what I have lost so far has made my skin a saggy WRECK!!! I have read that in addition to weight resistance that there have been reports that calendula (oil, lotion, not too sure on that one) helps with skin tone, as many have been using it for cellulite reduction as well. Now is it the calendula or the circular massage motion WITH the calendula, I haven't a clue. But I have read that it is beneficial with skin issues regarding weight. I haven't tried it yet, I think I will go for the weight resistance THEN incorporate some sort of skin toning rub (if any are truly in existence). Hopefully I will be ok as I am knocking on the door of 30!!! Thanks for all the info! Love...

When we get older our production of collagen and elastin gets slower and slower. Creams with a cocoa butter base have a reputation of helping with this problem. Make sure you are getting enough omega oils internally as well.

Erin, I know, it's really weird. She really has a huge problem. I think she just lost the weight way too fast or something. I've never had a problem like this, even with all three pregnancies (I gained over 100 lbs. with the first, too). Lots of stretch marks, but no sagging skin! (Except in my hands, for some reason?!?)
