Guest guest
Anna, My 2 year old male cat will tell you, he is a died in the wool vegitarian and to make him into a Vegan is just plain silly. If he escapes the house during daylight, the first thing he does is goes into our neighbors yard where there are tons of birds (they have feeders), catch one, brings it home, and then proceeds to de-feather it and eat it. This is totally natural for them. Now mind you, i dont condone his behavior, so i help him by making sure he gets meat scraps from time to time, and that includes some nice grilled fish, and by not letting him out until sunset to limit his ability to hurt birds. We hate paying the high proce of pet food too and so one of the other ways we supplement our pets diets (another cat and a dog) is we make them a stew of Organic parts (from the butcher, livers mostly or sometimes gizzards) plus garlic, onion, carrot and celery. We cook just enough to get the veggies tender, which is plenty of time for the meat parts, and then puree for them. The dog much prefers this over dog food, ANY DAY, in fact i can even add water to the blender when i am done and he will drink the little bits that are left (i waste as little as possible) The cost is comparable to two large cans of store bought wet dog food but way better since i know exactly what is in it. The cats will eat chicken liver, but not other animal livers or other parts. FIsh is a huge favorite, so if we grill some, we make sure we buy just ateeny bit extra so we can share our meal with them. Spoiled yes, but they give us lots of love (and stress reduction) in return so i think they are worth it. May take some adjustment for them, though! You can check out this web site for info on raw food diet for dogs: http://www.caninerawdiet.com/CRD/index.html. I know you didn't mention a dog, but when you start rooting around in this info you'll find people that do the raw food (meat) diet for their cats as well. > > Sounds like you're making a change! > > Kelli > > > DrCrandall [drcrandall@e...] > Wednesday, February 25, 2004 7:06 AM > herbal remedies > Herbal Remedies - Definition of a Vegetarian was Cleanse > > > > > > I have two cats. I know they'll love the salmon but what about the chicken? Can I give them that? Raw or cooked? Aaargghhh, this is gonna hurt :-) Or should my kitties be meat free too?
