Guest guest
It seems that most manufactures have handled this distilled water problem with their design or with a carbon filter, I could not find any major water distiller that had not addressed this problem. Elaine ___________________________ http://www.aquasana.com/water_faqs.cfm Question: What are VOCs?Answer: Volatile Organic Chemicals are synthetic compounds that turn into vapor at relatively low temperatures. VOCs typically vaporize at a much lower temperature than water. Most synthetic chemicals found in water, such as pesticides and herbicides, are VOCs. ___________ http://www.home-water-distiller.com/ Chlorine and other volatile substances are turned to gas and leave the distillation in a gaseous form through a valve 1. Drinking water is poured in the boiling vessel and the start button is pressed.2. The water is heated and begins to boil. One can pour boiling water in the apparatus for a quicker start.3. Steam leaves the boiling vessel. Volatile substances such as chlorine leave in gaseous form through the gas valve. Minerals, salts and other solids remain in the boiling vessel. ____________________________ http://www.tribest.com/purewise.asp Ordinary tap water is heated to 212F (100C) killing microbes such as bacteria, cysts and viruses that may be present. Steam rises leaving behind dead microbes, dissolved solids, salts, heavy metals and other substances. Low boiling gases are discharged through the gaseous vent. Steam is condensed in the stainless steel coil. Purified water then percolates through the coconut shell carbon filter, enhancing quality by adsorption of volatile organic compounds. ____________________ http://www.tjclarkminerals.com/water_distillers/steam_distillation.htm How Steam Distillation Works Steam distillation kills harmful bacteria and viruses, removes virtually all foreign particles, inorganic minerals, heavy metals, chlorine and most volatile organic chemicals (VOCs). Water is heated in a chamber and turned into vapor (steam). This water vapor rises leaving impurities behind in the boiling chamber. The purified vapor then enters a condenser where it is cooled and returned to the liquid state. 1 Ordinary tap water is heated to 212 degrees F (100 degrees C), killing bacteria, cysts and viruses by continuous boiling.2 Steam rises leaving behind dissolved solids, salts, heavy metals and other substances.3 Low boiling light gases are vented.4 Steam is condensed in a stainless steel coil.5 Distilled water then percolates through a coconut shell carbon filter, enhancing quality by adsorption of VOCs.6 The purified drinking water is collected and stored. Quality distillers are designed to remove light gases by venting and special carbon post filter treatment. Unlike simple water filtration, bacteria growth is virtually nonexistent since water is passed through a natural coconut shell carbon only after it has been steam distilled. Thus, any bacteria that was previously in the water has been killed and left behind by the distillation process.
