Guest guest
Billy: more accurately, you have highlighted a common mistake by lumping proteins together; undenatured whey protein concentrate and isolate are the exception to arguments against protein. Obviously each mammalian species' very survival depends on this being a good food, and calling it the best protein source is entirely accurate. While most protein is acidifying, whey protein is uniquely alkalizing; this means it allows better oxygen transport, which of course is a good thing. While most protein is relatively harder to digest, with a biological value in the mid-70's, eggs higher at 100, undenatured whey isolate can go as high as 160. Undenatured whey isolate is the most easily assimilated of any protein, requiring almost no digestion; this form of protein can be assimilated by even a compromized digestive system and by the very young, which have little or no stomach acid, little or no bowel ecology, and almost no digestive enzyme release. Only raw protein and other foods contains precursors for your body's master antioxidant and detoxifier; undenatured whey protein is the highest known source of these precursors. The glutathione produced reduces the inflammation that has been associated with most meat proteins, glutathione is absolutely necessary to the body's ATP energy production, when glutathione is depleted infection is stimulated and when it is replete infection disappears, and it's an immunomodulator, which means it accents a low immune response and subdues an overactive immune response in the most natural way. Billy, nothing in the doctor's site you posted the link to vilifies whey concentrates and isolates, and nothing could. The comment is your own, and it is not supported by any of the research. With respect, your agenda is transparent; we readily identify sleight of hand as such, and use myths as a fiber source on health groups Duncan Crow On 27 Dec 2006 at 8:14, wrote: > > Posted by: " billy171john " billy171 billy171john > Tue Dec 26, 2006 5:40 pm ((PST)) > > drmcdougall.com/med_hot_protein.html > > i recently had occasion to take exception to some high protein > propaganda . please read this and think link above carefully before > paying for high protien foods especially supplements and isolates. > > Billy
Guest guest
This quote from McDougall's opening paragraph shows that he doesn't know the difference between whey protein and meat, fish or egg proteins: " ...and the common use of protein supplements, especially among body builders, are increasing the risk of life- threatening kidney failure for millions of people. Although the damage caused by excess dietary protein has been recognized for more than 100 years, most people believe this nutrient is the most important one to seek in their diet. " Here's the link again: http://www.nealhendrickson.com/mcdougall/030300purestrictprotein.h tm I say he doesn't know because whey protein is the most popular protein for body builders and in health generally, and it's effect is well known from a scientific perspective to be very different from other proteins. McDougall has made an inexcusably sloppy generalization that he could have found adequate detail with which to prevent such a mistake in a five-minute search. It's too bad because several people rely on his opinion. Again, you have only to consider the consequences on survival of the species if the only obligatory protein a breast feeding mammal gets would impose the undue organ loading described in the article. The fact is that undenatured whey is well known to not impose this load because it does not require protein breakdown that other proteins do. I hope I've managed to illuminate one more myth in health information, propagated not by fact but erroneous opinion. Please check my work; there are plenty of keywords to get you started.
