Fairy Garden Fragrances An excerpt from the wonderful book "Fairy Garden Fragrances" by Linda Gannon Creating the Enchanted Mixtures The secret to creating a luscious mixture is to blend a harmonious perfume from several different aromas. So begin the process of creating blends by choosing flowers and herbs with scents that you like. 1. Select and Mix the Flowers and Herbs 2. Combine Essential Oils with a Fixative (a fragrance preservative) before adding them to the flower mixture. In a large glass jar or earthenware crock add your base oil to the fixative 15 to 20 drops, then other oils 1 drop at a time until you have exactly the scent you desire. 30 to 35 drops of oil to the fixative. Enough to generously perfume 6 cups of mixture. Cover shake gently and let the oils and fixative blend 2 to 3 days before using. Pour the flowers and herbs into the container with your essential oils/fixative mixture. Now it's time to add any dried berries, fruits, nuts, pods, pinecones, woods and vines that will give your potpourri texture, as well as charm. Once satisfied that your mixture is irresistible, cover your crock or jar, gently invert several times to mix, then allow to 'cure' for about four weeks. Faery Dream Pillow Cut out two 6" circles or squares of soft fabric such as velvet, velveteen, satin or silk, sew around three sides of the square or 3/4 of the circle with white or silver thread. Mix in an china bowl: Rose Petals (two parts) Lemon Balm (two parts) Clover (one part) Mint (one part) Lavender (one part ) Milkweed pod silky tassels (2 parts) Turn the pillow inside out so that the seams don't show, stuff the pillow with the herb mixture. Sew up the end so that the herbs stay in the pillow. You can then decorate the pillow if you want with lace, silk, or embroider with designs, etc. Take this pillow to bed with you at night and put it under your pillow. This not only smells great but will help you to have dreams of the fey. NOTE: After six months these pillows may lose their "fresh" scent. You can reuse them by emptying out the old contents and refilling them with new herbs
