Guest guest
- GLORIA Oils & Herbs list Sunday, May 09, 2004 12:23 PM Hello Hello Everyone, I wanted to introduce myself as I am new to this list although not new to aromatherapy, etc. I had participated on the IDMA list a few years back but got away from Aromatherapy in general for a while. I've been studying with Caroline Myss for the past 2 years (she opened up a school based on her book Sacred Contracts). But I missed the world of all things herbal and aromatic! So, I contacted Butch to place an order fro some of his wonderful Rose Otto! And he graciously updated me on his life and told me about this list1 So, I am happy I am back. I am sure as you post I will remember some of you. And maybe some of you will remember me. I live in the Cincinnati area and we are awaiting the return of the Cicadas after a 17 year hiatus! :> Since I have been away for a while I would like to ask a couple of basic questions. How does everyone sterilize their bottles and jars for essential olis and hydrosols? And I have a really big and nice melissa plant. How does everyone use melissa? Thank you for any ideas and suggestions. And thank you to Chris for having me on this list. I am really excited to be back in the world of oils & herbs! I wash my bottles in hot soapy water and then I air dry them. I have been picking up used bottles at every garage sale that I can find. He just used a solid board for the bottom and drilled holes in it in a grid, making sure they were far enough apart to accomodate the width of the largest bottles and used small diameter dowels long enough for the hieght of my tallest container. Guest guest
HI Gloria, I'm pretty new here myself, but welcome anyway!! > How does everyone sterilize their bottles and jars for essential > olis and hydrosols? I have been using any old bottles I can get my hands on for some bodycare products, so I have the same problem (but I even use plastic if I like the bottle) Have a look at Baby Bottle drying racks, or wine bottle drying racks. They can be so cheap, especially as you might just find one at a garage sale! I don't have one yet, but I am looking for one that looks like a Christmas tree - a central dowl with lots of dowls coming out of it. It would probably be easy to make one's own drying rack, but you might want to save your carpenter's energy for larger projects...! There are quite a few sources of info on how the oils are produced, but the best info comes straight from the distillers .. and yes there are a few of them on this list! I worked nights for years. 12 hours of sleep during the daylight hours is worth 6 hours of sleep from 10 PM to 4 AM. Working nights is hard on one's Liver and has a big impact on eyesight. Extra carbohydrates like honey will give him the feeling of extra energy but its going to be empty and a drain his nutritional resources. Not good. What did I do when I had to work night hours? I put myself on a schedule of at the very least 10 hours of UNINTERUPTED sleep during the day with only good nutrition. No junk food period. No coffee. No soda pop. No sugary or fatty snack foods. When I got off shift and arrived home I'd do calming yoga (lots of forward bend kind of asanas) to chill out enough to fall asleep soundly. I had room darkening curtains on the windows and ran a air purifier to mask outside noises. Forward bends help kick in the parasympathetic nervous system. So do deep abdominal breathing with more emphasis on exhales to the inhale. To wake up in the evening, before having a decent dinner with my family, I'd do waking up asanas focusing more on backbends. If he's getting enough rest during the day and his nutrition is excellent, you'd be surprised what a couple deep breaths done with some good stretches can do to reinvigorate. Guest guest
These are all excellent suggestions! I work 24 hr shifts at the fire department. We do get some sleep time, but it is not always easy to sleep. I have found that in the middle of the night if I am having a really tough time, I can take a dose of EmergenC and that will perk me up. EmergenC is available pretty much anywhere, GNC, Savon, Etc.
