Guest guest
Sorry, Mike, Evo is junk! It contains :Turkey, Chicken, Turkey Meal, Chicken Meal, Potatoes, Herring Meal, Chicken Fat, Natural Flavors, Egg, Garlic, Apples, Carrots, Tomatoes, Cottage Cheese, Alfalfa Sprouts, Dried Chicory Root, Taurine, Lecithin, Rosemary Extract, Vitamins/Minerals, Viable Naturally Occurring Microorganisms Not appropriate for a carnivore. Not to mention cooked, processed. And is natural flavors, soy? Not for my dog. It's the same as someone on this list, battling health problems chowing down on mcdonalds or burger king for every meal. They would not likely be healthy. Lots of info on the rawfeeding group. The wolfe does not eat the contents of the stomach..they shake it out, then eat the stomach. See David Mech for accurate info about wolves! They "graze" when they are starving! It is not a vital part of their diet. Lots of correct info at this link. http://www.rawfed.com/myths/ Nonie I'm a big advocate for feeding dogs raw meat and bones....however, Evo is actually quite good. There is no grain in it. It's made from ground turkey and chicken, including bones, fat and cartilage and other connective tissue. It has lesser amounts of raw fuit and vegetables. When a wolf eats its prey, the first thing it eats is the contents of the stomach. This is an important source of phytochemicals for canines. They do need them. Wolves also "graze" on herbs and eat berries and apples they forage. Evo is an excellent compliment to raw meat feeding.Mike
Guest guest
Whole Dog Journal rates Evo as a good food. Good enough for me. It's intended to supplement raw meat and bones. That's how we do it with our three dogs. They have wonderful health. The oldest is nearly 14 and acts like a two year old. His eyes are as clear as a young dog. I don't want to keep going around about this nonsense that wolves don't eat some vegetation. You can read my previous posts. Mammals that eat only meat in the wild have high taurine requirements. This would include carnivores like cats and weasels. I have a couple of ferrets who would die if they ate a low taurine diet. Dogs and wolves are not in this group. Their dietary requirements are omnivourous compared to cats and ferrets. As I said before, gray wolves eat 2% non animal food. (More if you count insects.) Yes, wolves eat quite a few things like grasshoppers. Wolves are meat eating foragers. They can go for more than two weeks without eating, but they will eat what they find. That includes berries and fallen apples. Sorry to burst your bubble. The irony is that I am a supporter of the "Feed Your Dog A Bone" movement. However, you can't change reality. Canines can benefit from small amounts of plant food. Not grains, just non-tropical fruits and vegetables. There are plenty of dog foods out there that are junk. Evo is not one of them.I suggest you expand your reading a bit and look at some of the research material on wild canine populations. The scatatological studies show exactly what wolves and wild dogs eat.....it includes plant material. Now......I am finished with this topic. Enough is enough. You may feed your dog any way you want. If you use raw foods they will be far healthier than most. What I object to is when others are pounced on for the way they are feeding their own dogs. Extreme positions are usually flawed.MikeNonie <nmsammyoleander soup Sent: Saturday, July 19, 2008 6:21:07 PMRE: OT Question?/Bonnie Sorry, Mike, Evo is junk!
