Guest guest
One of the TCM syndromes that can manifest as increased sensitivity to pain is Kidney Yin Deficiency. Kidney Yin and Kidney Yang Deficiency share some symptoms like possible loss of hearing (the ears are a part of the Kidney meridian), weak and sore lower back relieved by pressure, breathing is swallow with shortness of breath, body movements tend to be weak, and the person may be forgetful and easily frightened. Remember that Yin is cooling is nature, and Yin Deficiency will result in Deficiency Heat. Yang is heating in nature, and Yang Deficiency will result in Deficiency Cold. So these are some of the main differences between Kidney Yin and Kidney Yang Deficiency. In Kidney Yin Deficieny, the person tends to feel hot and to dislike heat, especially in the afternoon. In Kidney Yang Deficieny, the person tends to feel cold and to dislike cold. You'd see occasional spontaneous perspiration in Kidney Yang Deficiency whereas night sweats are more common with Kidney Yin Deficiency. As in all Heat conditions, the urine will be dark colored in Kidney Yin Deficiency. In Kidney Yang Deficiency (Deficiency Cold), it will be clear or very light colored. In Kidney Yang Deficiency there may also be a lot of urine even though the person may also suffer from edema. Like in a lot of Heat disorders, the person with Kidney Yin Deficiency is often thirsty and desires cold drinks. It's the opposite for Kidney Yang Deficiency. This person seldom will feel thirsty and/or prefers hot liquids, especially soup. (You can see some really weird combinations in Kidney Yang Deficiency that is fairly severe and has gone on for some time. It is possible for such a person to suffer from edema and dehydration at the same time while every thing the person forces her/hinself to drink goes right through the person.) As is typical of Heat disorders, the tongue will be red (maybe even have fissures) in Kidney Yang Deficiency. The tongue is pale in Kidney Yang Deficiency. In Kidney Yang Deficiency, the topcoat of the tongue will tend to be thin and white. (If there's also some Dampness problems and/or Stagnation problems, it may be thick.) In Kidney Yin Deficiency the topcoat will tend to be either absent or very thin white or yellow. Always pay attention to any time a tongue lacks a coating or lacks it in places. Very often this is a sign of Stomach Yin Deficiency with or without Kidney Yin Deficiency also being present. So always consider the possibility of Stomach Yin Deficiency when there's no topcoat or it's absent in patches. In men, both Kidney Yin Deficiency and Kidney Yang Deficiency can manifest as spermatorrhea. In Kidney Yin Deficiency there may be premature ejeculation problems. Kidney Yin Deficiency is also the man who is oversexed. This can be a snowballing problem because too frequent intercourse can further deplete Kidney Yin and Yang and Kidney Jing and create even more health problems. As I said, both Kidney Yin and Kidney Yang Deficiency will manifest as a weak and sore lower back which is relieved by pressure. But, in Kidney Yang Deficiency, heat will help to relieve the achiness. There frequently is a nervous quality accompanying Yin Deficiency, especially Kidney Yin Deficiency. The movements tend to be weak and rapid. In Kidney Yang Deficiency, the movements tend to be weak and slow. Vertigo may manifest with Kidney Yin Deficiency. In Kidney Yang Deficiency the teeth may be loose. (The teeth are a part of the Kidney meridian.) Some authorities say that the teeth may be loose in both Kidney Yin and Kidney Yang Deficiency. Also check the hair of the head for clues into the state of health of the Kidney. Problems in the Kidney meridian often will be reflected in the state of the hair on the head. Premature graying may be a symptom of Kidney Yin Deficiency. Fatigue is a symptom of any Deficiency state, be it Yang Deficiency, Yin Deficiency, Blood Deficiency, or Qi Deficiency. But this Deficiency Fatigue is especially severe when it's Yang Deficiency, particularly of the Kidney. The shortness of breath is more pronounced in Kidney Yang Deficiency than in Kidney Yin Deficiency. When it is especially pronouced in the case of Kidney Yang Deficiency, this is called Kidney Not Grasping the Lung Qi. (Both Kidney Yang and Lung Qi frequently are Deficient.) It is possible for a person to be both Kidney Yin and Kidney Yang Deficient at the same time. This person is really in bad shape. In this case many of the symptoms may cancel each other out. For example, the tongue color may appear normal. But you can bet there's lower back pain. There will be other symptoms pointing to problems in the Kidney meridian and organ like possible hearing problems, problems with the hair on the head, dental problems, and skeletal problems. When you question a person with both Kidney Yin and Kidney Yang Deficiency, the person is likely to say that s/he is bothered by any extreme in temperatures. This is a person that really hates the cold of winter and the heat of summer and is bothered a great deal by both. This person also may experience chills and hot flashes from time to time. **************** Something else to consider in cases of increased sensitivity to pain is magnesium deficiency. Mg (magnesium) plays many roles in the body. One of these is it's a GABA enhancer. GABA is an inhibitory neurotransmitter; NMDA is an excitatory neurotransmitter. NMDA tells nerves to fire; GABA inhibits nerves from firing. In a healthy person NMDA and GABA are in correct balances so that nerves are firing neither too much or too little. If GABA is too high relative to NMDA, the result is coma. If NMDA is too high relative to GABA, seizures can be the result. But before the seizure stage is reached there can be increased sensitivity to pain and a feeling of sensory overload because nerves are firing too often. The person can feel overwhelmed by the patterns in a rug, the smells in a supermarket, crowds in malls, etc. Think of the old fairytale about the princess and the pea. (And if both Mg deficiency and Kidney Yin Deficiency are present at the same time, this is a really crabby princess.) Victoria --== Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ ==-- Share what you know.
