Guest guest
I wish I had more information on diabetes and TCM. This is one of the many conditions that doesn't correspond to one TCM syndrome. Diabetes can be a manifestation of different TCM syndromes. My info is very limited, but some of the possibles are Sweet Urine Disease and Yin Deficient Heat Lung Disorder. The treatment will vary according to the root disharmony. Some of the herbs which have blood sugar lowering properties include cooked rehmannia, ginseng, chinese yam, and sealwort (Rhizoma Polygonati). I'll be posting some info on each of these. I'm glad we're discussing this on the list because it gives a lot of people insights into how herbs are chosen in TCM. The very, very general info I have from one book says, " To help nourish the spleen, kidneys, and stomach use Chinese yam, lotus seed and mulberry. Insulin-dependent diabetics must see a practitioner before administering any self-remedy. " Somewhere around here I have a paper on diabetes which I will try to find.
