Guest guest
This is the raw rehmannia root, called Sheng Di Huang To review, its energy is Cold, its taste is sweet & bitter, and it targets the Heart, Liver, and Kidney. The primary use of Sheng Di Huang is to Cool Blood. It also moistens Yin and generates fluids. Needless to say, it is contraindicated in Damp Phlegm and in Deficiency of Spleen with Dampness. The people with these conditions are Damp enough and rehmannia has some real watering properties. Rx Rehmanniae Glutinosae also clears Heat. It's used in Ying- and Xue-stage Heat. We haven't covered the stages of Virulent Heat Evils yet. You do know what Ying is from a post yesterday. Ying is Nutritive Qi, so this is Nutritive-stage Evil. Xue is Blood stage. When a Virulent Heat Evil gets to the Ying- and especially to the Xue-stage, this is a really serious infection. In Xue-stage evil the person is hemorrhaging because of Heat in the Blood. You want something that will cool the Blood. Raw rehmannia is something that will. Plus it will moisten Yin which has been severely damanged by the time this stage is reached. Sheng Di Huang also cools Heart Fire that is blazing due to Yin Deficiency. This too is a fairly serious condition. Heart Yin Deficiency has some major effects on Shen. We haven't covered Shen yet. At this point just know that disturbances to Shen which resides in the Heart results in things like waking frequently through the night, forgetfulness, excessive dreaming, and some real nervousness problems. When Heart Yin Deficiency is present, also suspect Liver Yin Deficiency and Kidney Yin Deficiency because these 3 have a tendency to occur together. In addition, raw rehmannia is used to ease Wasting and Thirsting syndrome. As I've said, this herb is so moistening that it is contraindicated in Damp Phlegm and in Deficiency of Spleen with Dampness. It's also contraindicated in cases of Yang Deficiency (those folks are already too Cold, and this herb doesn't just have Cool energy, it has Cold energy). It's contraindicated for pregnant women with Deficiency of Blood or Deficiency of Spleen or Stomach Deficiency. Sheng Di Huang also has in vitro antifungal activity against many fungi. According to Wicke it also has " been shown to have a normalizing effect upon blood sugar levels, being especially useful for certain types of hyperglycemic conditions associated with Yin-Deficieny-type diabetes. " (vol. 2, p. 45) Remember that in TCM diabetes can manifest from more than one TCM syndrome. This herb is especially recommended for cases of diabetes which have a root of Yin Deficiency. When using Radix Rehmanniae Glutinosae to treat Yin Deficiency diabetes, be mindful of the contraindications. Be very, very careful in using it if there are Phlegm Dampness problems anywhere in the body. (Yes, it is possible for someone to be both Yin and fluid Deficient and still have Phlegm Dampness problems in part of the body. Also be awares that Henry C. Lu says that it is a coagulant. You want to be careful with this one if the person needs to be on blood thinning herbs or drugs. Victoria --== Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ ==-- Share what you know. Learn what you don't.
