Guest guest
These herbs are used for severe Qi and Yang Deficiency with signs of Interior Cold. In these cases they're used along with Qi and Yang tonics. The Herbs That Warm the Interior have an immediate but not long lasting effect on the body. The Qi and Yang tonic herbs take longer to work and are for long-term solutions that deal with the Root of Qi and Yang Deficiency. Yang Deficiency in particular can take a very long time to correct - espeically when it has gone on for years. However, it would be a mistake to think of the Herbs That Warm the Interior simply as relief for symptoms. Yes, they do relieve symptoms of Cold rather quickly, but they also can help to correct the underlying Root(s) of the Cold. Think of the analogy of jump-starting a car on a very cold morning. Once the car is started, the alternator starts to recharge the battery. Something similar happens when Herbs to Warm the Interior (the jump start) are used along with Qi and Yang tonics (the alternator) in cases of Yang Deficiency Cold. The added warmth provided by the Herbs for Warming the Interior help to get things started. These herbs are for severe Qi and Yang Deficiency with symptoms and signs of Interior Cold. Keep in mind that severe Yang Deficiency is going to involve the Kidneys and/or the Spleen. These are the two systems in which the symptoms of Interior Deficiency Cold are going to be the most severe and the most far-reaching. The Kidney system in particular is very vulnerble to Cold. In addition, the Kidney supplies Yang to the rest of the body. The Spleen plays a key role in the extraction and transportation of Qi from food. When the Spleen is hypo-functioning because of Deficiency, it isn't performing this job of extracting Qi from food very well. The result is a snowballing situation. Less Qi means that less is available for the body which means that the Spleen becomes even more Deficient which means that it extracts even less which means even less is available for it and so on. Because of the severe impact of Kidney and/or Spleen Yang Deficiency on the body, most of the Herbs for Warming the Interior enter the Kidney, the Spleen, or both as well as other systems. The energy of these herbs will range from Warm to Hot to Very Hot. They tend to have a spicy taste though a few of them also have secondary tastes like sweet or bitter.
