I have searched for info on stuttering, but so far have only been able to come up with very general information. For what it's worth, the Heart " opens into the tongue " . The tongue can reveal a number of things about different Organ systems, but especially about the Heart. Maciocia has the following to say: " The condition of the Heart also affects speech and abnormalities may cause stuttering or aphasia. " (p. 74, Foudnations) (Aphasia is the loss or impairment of the power to use words.) " The Heart influences speech and this relationship is manifested in different ways. A condition of Heart-Fire (see p. 208) will cause a person to talk a lot. On the other hand, invasion of the Pericardium by Heat can result in aphasia. Stuttering can be due to a Heart disharmony, as explained above. " (Foundations, p. 75) The tongue in general is indicative of what is going on with the Heart, but the tip of the tongue is especially so. If the tip of the tongue is red, this usually indicates Heat in the Heart. If the tip is pale, this can point to Heart Yang Deficiency or Heart Blood Deficiency and in some cases to Heart Qi Deficiency. Is there a Heart crack - a line in the middle of the tongue going from the tip to the back? If so, is the tongue swollen on either side of the crack? (Can indicate Heart Yang Deficiency.) Or, is the tongue thinner than normal? (Can indicate Heart Blood Deficiency.) What does the pulse reveal? In general, a thick tongue coat indicates Excess, and a thinner than normal tongue coat indicates Deficiency. BUT, there are exceptions. Especially when there are mixed patterns. What is the person's general emotional state like. In GENERAL, agitation and manic behavior point to Heat, and being subdued, dull, and listless point to Cold (Yang Deficiency or Yin Excess). (You'll see an exception to this in Phlegm-Fire Harassing the Heart. Even though the Diian form of this is marked by depression, dullness, and being out of it (Yin symptoms), this is NOT a Deficiency pattern requiring tonification. The Root is Phlegm and Fire.) Are there any general signs of Phlegm? What is the person's sleep like?
