Dear John,

Although I am new to TCM, I have had the opportunity to study various techniques where Qi is used to give various outcomes. Through daily studies of Qi Gong, Tui Na and Kenjutsu, I have on occasion felt the proper flow of Qi and furthermore, I have also felt 'Evil' or 'Xie' Qi of other people. From my limited knowledge of Xie Qi, I believe that it is easily transfered from one person to another. This I have noted through Tui Na especially, as when you massage a person who is suffering from a particular disharmony, you can often feel the stagnation in your own body after the massage, whereas after training techniques on a perfectly healthy person, this stagnation is generally not felt.

I have also had the opportunity to study with a particularly good practicioner of Shaolin Qi Gong and Tui Na, who has passed on some excellent theories regarding 'benificial practices' to protect oneself for Evil or Impure Qi. He states that "to protect yourself from 'Evil Qi', you must pay attention to your own Qi.............it is imperative to train everyday building Qi in your body, so that when attacked form the exterior, your body has enough Qi to block the Evil Qi, and therefore allowing no margin for evil Qi to enter." Such techniques involving Qi cultivation may be found in all the internal forms of Qi Gong and may also be found in some external forms of Qi Gong, such as Shaolin Qi Gong.

I hope this limited information may be of some use and that it may spark further discussion on the topic.

Regards,

Benji.
