Guest guest
For beginners: Each meridian has a proper direction of flow. Spleen Qi is supposed to rise. Among other things, it holds the organs in place. When Spleen Qi sinks, prolapsed organs (stomach, uterus, anus, etc.) can result. Another symptom of Spleen Qi failing to rise properly can be dry mouth. Dry mouth can be due to things other than Spleen Qi failing to rise. But, if there are other symptoms of Spleen Qi Deficiency, the dry mouth may be due totally (or in part) to Spleen Qi failing to rise properly. (Note: Spleen Qi Sinking or Spleen Qi failing to rise are variations of Spleen Qi Deficiency. " Another manifestation of the failure of Spleen qi to rise is dryness of the mouth, and occasionally even the eyes and the nose. This is characterized by dryness in the mouth without signs of deficiency in the rest of the fluids in the body. There may be, in fact, simultaneous signs of excess pathogenic fluid build-up due to damp development as a result of the weak Spleen qi, such as loose stool, excessive urination and leukorrhea. " (Fluid Physiology and Pathology in Traditional , Steven Clavey, p. 4.) Weak Spleen Qi failing to rise is is one of the scenarios where one will see mixed indications for both Dampness and Dryness. If there are not signs of Dampness present somewhere in the body in some form (edema, feeling of weights attached to limbs, etc.) and other evidence of Qi Deficiency, then the dry mouth is due to something else besides weak Spleen Qi failing to rise. Note: One of the functions of the Spleen is to transform and transport Fluids in the body. If Spleen Qi is not rising properly, this does not happen in the mouth. The mouth becomes dry even while Dampness accumulates in other parts of the body. (Whenever Dampness is present, suspect and rule in or rule out Spleen Deficiency. The two frequently go together because of the key role of the Spleen in transforming and transporting Fluids.)
