Guest guest
Here is some more non-TCM info on the use of alternatives in treating post-operative conditions. It does not go into any great detail on anything, but just lists some treatments as well as listing contraindications. http://www.tnp.com/encyclopedia/condition/626/259/ I want to call your attention to the use of ginger for post-operative nausea. The results of the studies have been mixed, in some cases the ginger helping and in one study actually hurting. The reason for these mixed results is that researchers are not considering TCM properties. Ginger is an herb with warming energy. Raw ginger has warm energy; dried ginger has hot energy. Giving ginger alone for nausea should only be done with people who are Cold. Give ginger by itself to a person who is too Hot, and it's adding Heat to Heat and making problems worse. The reason for the mixed results is that researchers failed to restrict study groups to just people who were suffering from Cold. When they gave it to a person who is too Hot, it aggravated certain problems. In TCM raw ginger is classified as an herb to warm the Exterior. Dried ginger is an herb to warm the Interior. In order to correctly study ginger, researchers - in addition to considering if subjects are Cold, Hot, or Neutral - also need to consider the form of the ginger used - raw or dried. The properties of the ginger (and its uses) will differ according to if the ginger is raw or dried.
