Guest guest
Thank you yet again, Victoria! I hadn't thought of the compass-shaped five element interaction as being a Ba Gua. (I was thinking more along the lines of a diagram like this one: http://lieske.com/images/tonify2.gif )This clears some things up a bit, and now I have a more complete idea of where to look to learn more about it's interactions. Oh, and my apologies if I am veering off topic. I know that things like the Ba Gua and the Earthly Branches are used more commonly in things like Feng Shui and Chinese astrology as opposed to TCM. I'm trying to strengthen my theoretical foundations, in hopes of gaining understanding of the " why " of certain practices of chinese medicine. I hope that this will help me avoid the " recipe " approach to things and help me become more flexible.
Guest guest
>(I was thinking more >along the lines of a diagram like this one: >http://lieske.com/images/tonify2.gif Note for those new to TCM: The color red is associated with Fire, white with Metal, blue (or black) with Water, green with Wood (and the east and spring), and yellow with earth and the center. Chinese maps put south at the top instead of the bottom like Westerners do. Thus, east and the color green are on the left, white (and autumn) are on the right, and north (and winter and midnight) are on the bottom. In Feng Shui, the east is symbolized as a Green Dragon, the south as a Red Phoenix (bird), the west as a White Tiger, and the north as a Blue or Black Tortoise. I mention these associations because sometimes SOME clients will experience this particular symbolism in dreams that can offer clues as to what imbalances are present. There is nothing esoteric about this. The brain is linked to every part of the body via the nervous system, and it's not unusual for the brain to process information coming in from all parts of the body and produce dreams with certain symbolism. BUT, symbolism can vary according to cultures as well as individuals. One person with imbalance in the Large Intestine and/or Lungs (Metal) may dream of a ferocious white tiger; another may dream of roads turning at 90 degree angles (LI) or upside down trees (Lungs). It depends on the culture and on the individual. >Oh, and my apologies if I am veering off topic. There are others on here who are trying to understand the same things as you are. Hopefully, there is enough of a mixture of different topics on the list as to satisfy a lot of interests. >I'm >trying to strengthen my theoretical foundations, in hopes of gaining >understanding of the " why " of certain practices of chinese medicine. >I hope that this will help me avoid the " recipe " approach to things >and help me become more flexible. Two things to keep in mind are that the Chinese have been and continue to be excellent observers, and they are not paradigm-rigid. They are very flexible. When cases come along that do not fit the current model (paradigm), instead of ignoring the cases that don't fit, they enlarge the model to include the new situations that are faced. One example of this was the development of the theory of Virulent Heat Illnesses when infections began to appear (thanks to expansion of trading and travel) that the current theory of Cold-Induced Illnesses couldn't explain and couldn't help. They didn't ignore the new, more deadly infections because they didn't fit the Cold-Induced Illness model; they expanded the model to include Virulent Heat Illnesses. Chinese medicine is a constant balance between honoring the past, continuously observing and testing the information, and enlarging the model as new challenges are faced. TCM healers seek to know exactly when a certain treatment is going to work and under exactly what circumstances. Careful observation and analysis play key roles in this. Guest guest
I think that the twelve earthly branches are related to the 12 meridians and the ten heavenly stems to the 5 elements doubled(one yin, another yang), is that right? If so they have a lot to do with TCM and the double hours of the energy cycle throughout the day. There would be no opposition, depending on the time you where born, a certain meridian/organ/element(yin or yang) would have predominance in you, bringing information on diagnosis and treatment(preventive, preferrably!) The BaGua is a diagram for the movement of Qi, the elements, seasons, etc...All is related to everything else, one way or another, and these diagrams have many layers of meaning, and much information built into them. Guest guest
In fact twelvs branches and ten stems is related to feng shui and is older to five elements and yin yang theories. baguas was discovered by fu hi and has two kind of arrangement that one from fu hi stablish simetry and essencial of every fenomenon, the other one from king wen stablish the movemente of qi during the year and between several years that means secences of wether that is why earthly branches are once related to externaL factors, and sometime they could be seen related to meridian folowing the movent the qi in a day or a year.that fact is used by zi wu liu zhu which means flux and reflux of energy by using acupunture. bagua sistem is better used in most difficult condition that is why it is not usual seeing it use in habitual treatment. ===== Dr.L Rodríguez Neninger Ballet Tv Cuba telef 537-797255Especialista en Medicina Holistica(Acupuntura,Masaje,Dieta,Herbologia chinas) Domicilio:Telef 537-95-4446 lrneninger _____________ Messenger Nueva versión: Webcam, voz, y mucho más ¡Gratis!
