Guest guest
The Yin shan Cheng yao (Principles of Correct Diet?) translation finally arrived, and it's quite an interesting read. A bit confusing though. One thing I was wondering about was the advice it gives " One must not doze during the daytime. It harms primordial qi. " Has anyone else ever heard anything similar?? I still have a dim understanding of the TCM view of sleep. Although the book is full of useful info, it's also full of things that seem to be absolute gibberish, such as " If one is tipsy, one cannot sleep on millet stalks. It produces leprosy. " Not sure if that is due to mistranslation, or simply the ignorance of earlier times. If you can find a copy, I'd recommend a read. I still have a dim understanding >of the TCM view of sleep. I've never heard that one before. What about people who give out and have to sleep during the day? Speaking from personal experience, nothing harms Qi (and other things) like pushing on regardless of how one feels. I'm not talking about young, healthy people who do it once in a while or even do it for a stretch of time, but about people who have done it far too long and are profoundly exhausted and ill. Like someone with mononucleosis (glandular fever). In my experience, nothing helps Qi like getting a lot of rest and sleep. That often includes daytime naps. But like so much in TCM, it's an individual thing. Some people are harmed by sleeping during the day. Others require it.
