Guest guest
I wonder if someone could help me clarify in my mind what TCM organs control which part of western definition 'digestion'. I initially had Spleen translated in my mind as 'metabolism' and then 'periferal metabolism', but I see that it is also accredited with some digestive function - as far as I can gather 'absorption' ? Checking out some basic Zang-Fu sites again it seems that after the Stomach, the small intestine 'separates the turbid and clear' and then the Spleen 'transports' - as if the liver (western) were not there? The large intestine in TCM seems to be more of a glorified waste disposal and water recovery unit rather than being credited with further nutrient production/absoption - is that correct? And would such further absorption also be a Spleen function? Would all malabsorption be a Spleen dysfunction therefore? Jackie
