Which treatments go first? Clearing heat or handling deficiencies?

Which kinds of treatments are traditionally handled first, among the

major types? Is it often that one must clear heat or move stagnant qi

first, so that later when building blood or working to correct

deficiencies, one doesn't get a worse blockage? Then, is the

procedure usually to work on deficient yin before yang, or at once?

I'm not a TCM practitioner, just an interested user of it (by the way

I do have a couple prior questions on the forum I hope to add more

info to over the next week or so).

So rather than speaking of specific conditions here, I'm trying to

remember what I think :) I heard once about the usual pattern of

treatment, as to what kinds of things should really precede others -

generally. Thank you.

In general, the rule of thumb is to reduce the excess before you

increase the deficiency. However there are many cases in which one

would do both at the same time, but to answer your question, excess is

treated before deficiency.
