How many schools inspire their students to remain alumni, to give to the school for future students and the advancement of the profession via research, and to participate in professional organizations? How many have decent libraries? You should take it as an inspiration to advance your profession and not as an insult. Where we were relative to where we are is quite different, and we need to advance more to get where we need to be. Your personal education is what you made it, with the help of some great teachers perhaps and maybe even a good school, but what we had before and what we have now can be better, and some colleges are making the jump to educate better. Those will survive. Others may not, or may remain vo-tech oriented. It isn't an easy or cheap transition for them. David Molony

With all due respect, David, you did not make this clarification in your previous post. The context was master vs. doctorate education. I was stating that I found the master level education to be a perfectly acceptable point at which to treat patients and if one wishes to continue to a doctorate that should be a choice not a mandate. Perhaps you were thinking of the 80's education, but it wasn't clearly stated. It sounded as though you were commenting on all master level education. I only know of the master level education offered in CA and WA. Based on such, I took exception to your remarks as I know the standard to be quite good in both states (in the schools that I am familiar with, that is). I have heard of what education was in the 80's from folks who were trained then and I do agree that it sounds quite lacking. But fortunately, those I know who were educated then have been those who have sought to constantly continue their education and offer something to the profession. They are some of the more inspirational people I know in the profession. There is no " should " about any of this. Perhaps it would be a good for all of us to keep an eye toward clarity when making a point in this format. It would help to avoid this kind of misunderstanding as we don't have the luxury of the quick correction as in conversation. Attilio: Actually we do have the ability to have quick discussions. Go to the group's web site Chinese Traditional Medicine/ Click on 'chat' on the left hand side tool bar. It then takes and enters you into the group's chat room. I admit no one is ever in there. But that may change. Attilio
