Also, laws can be changed if there is consensus that the doctorate be entry level and that a licensing title of DOM can level the playing field as the profession progresses to that point statewide and nationally. What looks impossible now is not always so in 5-10 years when everyone is on board. That time is coming fast. DAvid
Guest guest
Ahhh David, In actuallity i drafted both the language of that regulation and to a large degree the original law in our state . Personally I did not need the title doctor before i earned that degree nor do i use it much now. I believe that Dr is nothing more than an academic degree that one earns and irelevant to my patients or my practice. I had a full practice both before and ater initials got added to my name. IMHO to call ones self Dr without the degree is fraud. To call oneself Dr. with is often arrogance. ;-) Of course i do use it for dealing with MDs and Beurocrats and making Airline reservations... and when my arrogance shines on thru.... I Without beating a dead horse I have to say that this is much more about patients getting reimbursement and appropriate treatment due to the fact that insurance generally only pays for Dr. titles or at least it's the only way to even begin an argument. Perhaps if we get equal parity then it won't be such a big deal. The problem with giving two degrees in the field is that some patients will get reimbursement and some won't as many of the senior practitioners may not want to pay the addition 4-6K now being asked by the schools in this country. I for one would like to see a board set up to review those people who have practicing well for 20yrs. for grandfathering and then encouraging all people to up their skills by making it financial feasible to do so.
