Thanks for trying to cheer me up. I believe you are right to be optimistic for a

future, but it may be a far away future. The simple fact is the modern high

consumption way of life with all its generated toxins and polutants etc, is just

not sustainable. We cannot all live like californians, no way. In indonesia and

russia just like everywhere, people are cutting and clearing the land like

there's no tomorow. Forget oil, it is just another insider trading chip. I

don't think putting all organic waste into a modified waste slurry machine is

going to solve much, it is a overpromised technology, you will see. If you want

to see what other cute projects the new US Naval Intelligence (some of the old

naval intelligence was in the bottom basements of the WTC) is currently working

on, read below.

There are more people consuming from an apparently limited supply of raw

materials, the news is bias to reporting what's wrong, a lot of people are

angry, but communication is expanding exponentially, we are becoming a world

community in spite of some current tensions, and there are technologies becoming

available that will make this world a much cleaner, safer place to live.

I found an article the other day that I thought was amazing. Really

cheap renewable clean energy that will make the hydrogen cell a real

possibility.

It truly is amazing and will take care of many of the most potent fears

about our world most people have.

One of the concepts I try to get across to my patients is " Moderation in

all things " . I believe this goes along with optimism and pessimism. Sure

there is a polarity going on. There are disappointing things and positive

things

happening all the time. While I agree with your observation that we cannot

sustain the level of consumption the way we have in the past, my point is that

the nature of consumption is in the process of change.

As we balance the waste we create into the products that we produce, the

draw on the environment will diminish compared to what it takes to produce out

products currently.

We just get to decide whether we believe the forces that shape our

planetary experiences will help us survive of not. I believe awareness of the

major players is becoming much better. So is our technology. I think the shift

is going to happen much faster than you suggest.

But, I tend to optimism. ;-)))

Good luck,

Chris
