This year, again, according to the 5-Element Revenge Cycle, colds

and flu will not start at Taiyang, but rather the Shaoyang and/or

Taiyin depth.

I've never heard of this 5-Element revenge cycle. Do you have any

more info on it please.

Attilio:

The 5-Element Revenge Cycle comes out of the Suwen Chapters 66-73.

In brief, if it is a Ram year as is 2003, then dampness is the

dominant energy of the year. So, firstly, Earth sedates Water.

Water's lack of control over Fire allows it to increase; then Fire

suppresses Metal; which, in turn, cannot control Wood. Wood, then,

suppresses Earth as a " revenge " for Earth's earlier domination of

Water. The child of the original suppressed element revenges the

Mother.

The whole cycle takes the entire year and shows what the dynamics of

the end of the year will be; it can be predictive. Whereas in the

SHL you are usually looking at much shorter periods of time. If you

know what the conditions will be, you can anticipate how a

particular patient or a patient population may react.

Holger:

The information is from the Suwen, Chapters 66-73. You can read

Unschuld's synopsis of those chapters in the appendix of his new

book on the Suwen. It's easier to get through and make sense of---

for a first reading---than the original classic.
