Guest guest
Dear Pam, >>> Her diet is good and she is a vegetarian.<<< This statement worries me a bit. A vegetarian diet, in the Western sense, is often not a balanced diet, unless it is taken very seriously, which would mean incorporating seeds, nuts, and beans – preferably all sprouted – and/or supplementing with vitamins/minerals/protein powder. As inflammatory conditions often are due to faulty immune mechanisms, and/or an imbalance of pro- and anti-inflammatory prostaglandins, the diet should be addressed at the same time as the TCM patterns (LV yang rising, LV yang attacking SP and ST, Yin and Blood def, heat stag). Secondly, most eczema patients improve with a diet that eliminates common food allergens: milk, eggs, and peanuts, and, to a lesser extent, wheat, citrus, and chocolate. However, any food can be an offending agent. Also, omega-3 fatty acids may not be present in sufficient amounts, leading to a greater tendency to inflammation and allergies. Is she eating fish or fish oil? What Western meds has she been taking, short-term, long-term, recently? How are her stools? Frequent diarrhea? Have you considered probiotics to re-establish her intestinal flora while addressing her organ disharmonies? Just some thoughts, Daniel C.
