Guest guest
I make soap using the hot process (HP) method. I used to use the direct heat (DH) method but have found that a double boiler (DB) works good. I am throwing the abbreviations in here in case someone doesn't know them and wants to learn them. Anyway, I started out making soap because the water here is so bad and my dh's skin keeps breaking out. I do not use animal oils in my soaps. I haven't tried any milk soaps yet but am considering getting goat's milk from a local supplier (so I know the source and can say chemical free or whatever). My dh has picked up a second, part-time job and with some other work from home options I may be able to quit my full time job and be a SAHM and put more into my soap making. Guest guest
Hi Cindy, I'm curious to learn the hot process method as opposed to the cold process. I didn't have very much success with the CP soap and would like to try the other method. I wanted to make soap too because I am highly allergic to most synthetics. Is there a good reference I should read for the HP soap? Thanks! Guest guest
Hi Cindy! I checked your soap web site, and I want to congratulate you, because it's wonderful! It has a very beautiful desing and it's so explicit and honest! I loved it )) So, as you're in the group and want to get your soaps the most natural possible, let me give you one suggestion: you try and change some of the fragrance oils by true essential oils. We buy EOs here with a very good quality, Chris says she knows 4 or the few world suppliers that gc test their oils! And essential oils are not made with any chemicals, are distilled from plants or extracted by other processes. We can tell you more about it later if you don't know them very well. Sorry if I'm saying any nonsense, I got the idea that you don't work a lot with essential oils in your soaps, because most of them have fragrance oils in it - although their scent is not avaible in EOs (at least it's hard to find). Hope you have a lot of sucess with your site, it's really wonderful! Hugs Lena , " Graham Family " <grahamfamily@a...> wrote: > I make soap using the hot process (HP) method. Guest guest
Lena, Thank you for the compliments but I cannot take all the credit for the website. Homestead.com has some great templates to use. As for changing to EO, that is what I am here for. I know some scents will have to stay FO but I want to offer more of a variety of EO scented soaps. I don't know the first thing about blending. If anyone can recommend a good book or site I would appreciate it. I, too, am looking forward to the hints and tips. I'd like to try my hand at making some soap, but am completely clueless. I've tried a few sites on the web, but I need someone to talk to me like I'm three to start with:) AoB
Guest guest
Hi all, Here are some sites for soap making: http://users.silverlink.net/~timer/soapinfo.html http://hospice.xtn.net//soap/ http://www.soapteacher.com/index.htm http://www.alphabetsoap.com/ http://www.thesage.com/calcs/lyecalc.html - This site is great for determining the amount of lye needed for any soap recipe. I have been making soap for over 6 years - I don't consider myself an expert as I continue to learn new and exciting things. If I can be of any help do not hesitate to email me I will see if I can be of any service Vickie
