Hello Everyone, just wanted to let you all know that I'm new here but

look forward to participating and learning from your discussions.

It's so much easier to ask people who know than fubble through 8

books trying to find the answer. I'm very excited to be here and

will have a post soon. Thank you for that opportunity. What a

wonderful thing to chat about.

Have a great day!!

~Michelle

Michelle, I have found that just because it's in a book, that doesn't mean it true! Many of these authors only copy info from other author's books and that those people are not speaking from real, practical experience.

I have learned from talking to Chris' honey, Butch, that there are only two books that are worth refering to because these two people are practicing aronatherapists, and are speaking from experience. I bought a dozen or so books when I first started in this field and I wish now that I could get all the money back from them and buy the twe Butch has for sale. I'm saving my pennies and as soon as I can, I will be the proud owner of Sylla Sheppard-Hanger's book " The Aromatherapy Practitioner Reference Manual" . You can see what Butch has to say about her and Martin Watts on his site at www.AV-AT.com . Meanwhile, this list has some very knowledgeable people who also speak from experience. I value their opinions greatly and come to them often for advice. Deonia

Michelle, since I have been on various lissts and met Chris' honey, Butch, I have learned that justs because it's in a book, that don't necessiarly made it so! The people that write the books , I find, are not all speaking from experience, as are the people on this list. I now refer to the dozen or so books I bought when I first started this endevor, I wish I acould get the money back from all of them and buy one of the few books that Butch sells on his site. I'm saving my pennies and one of these days i'll be able to buy the one by Martin Watts, or the other one by Sylla Shepherd-Hanger " The Aromatherapy Practitioner Reference Manual" Deonia

Hi Deonia, Michelle, all..,

There are many good practicing aromatherapists who've written books..

and do share their knowledge - and sure, the two that Butch refers to

are some of the best. But.. even the first book that you mention, which

is taken from The Atlantic Institute For Aromatherapy, right in Tampa,

FL... where Sylla Shepphard-Hanger is the Director of................in

their own courses and study guides and manuals, they use other books as

well, and sell them right on-site. (as well as oils, etc) Great web-site

if you'd like to take a look :) They also do correspondence courses, as

well as seminars......... there for USA certification; and, while " any "

knowledge/learning is wonderful - can't ever have too much - even there,

on their site, you will see the message that USA certification isn't

recognized in the USA... :(

It's a great site at least to browse through anyways, here's the link to

it if any are interested:

http://www.atlanticinstitute.com/

If you purchase the Practitioners book, however, and do the work,

including written test and case studies; also research paper, you can

receive their certificate. The price isn't bad for the knowledge you

gain :) There are other schools (online) out there, some as good, some

not quite and some bad.. lol... !

Actually, if you join the idma list as well, you'll find other good

practising aromatherapists on that.. just ignore all the

arguments!!!!!!! <grin>

Hugs,

Marilyn
