Guest guest
Hi all Sorry to Cross Post. Had a Non stress test today and was sent to Labor and Delivery for High blood pressure, threats of inducement, tests for Liver and Kidney functions blah blah blah! AL is perfect. Has settled in nicely and shows no sign of every wanting to vacate the premises. Fluid is perfect, HB is perfect, tolerates contractions perfectly, movement is perfect etc. This is causing me HUGE abmounts of stress. I've GOT to kick him/her out NOW! I am supposed to go back on Friday to see how I'M doing (they show not a whole lot of concern about AL) (Oh, Liver and Kidneys are poifect! or as Pa Larkin says " Perfik " ) So. Old wives tales. How many ways can YOU think of to start labour, (except for the castor oil one, YECH). I've come up with sex, (huge joke and didn't do anything), spicy food (gave me heart burn and not much else) Black or blue cohosh (don't know much). Raspberry leaf tea...I go to the bathroom a lot, but other wise, HA! Oh! And for those of you who have anything to do with pregnant women, especially the geriatric Pregnant women, let me clue you in on a little secret: The phrase " at your age " does NOT go over well, especially after the 5th or 6th time. ESPECIALLY if you are so young, that we geriatric mothers wonder if you are old enough to cross the road by yourselves! Cheers! Guest guest
HUUUGGGGSSSSSS! I want to tell you what NOT to do first! Do NOT do the castor oil thing. The reasoning behind that is bowel stimulation, but it can cause problems too, best just forget that option for many reasons. Do NOT go jumping up and down and attempting high impact aerobics like some ladies might say .. the baby can get strangled that way from the umbilical cord Don't bother with the cohash herbs now .. they really are for labor, not before ... Keep drinking your Red Raspberry Leaf Tea .. copious quantites .. it won't induce labor but when the delivery time comes your body will be glad you did The only other thing I can tell you to do hon is VISUALIZATION. Start making your Aromatherapy blends for labor and delivery (Jasmine, Rose, Neroli, Ylang, Spikenard I used in one blend). Visualize that baby coming down the birthing canal. Talk to that baby and TELL that baby in no uncertain terms that it is time for change now .. the next BIG step in life (the biggest actually!) Communicate with your baby and your body and make it happen *Hugs and ~Labor Vibes~* Chris (list mom) http://www.alittleolfactory.com Kathleen Petrides wrote: >Hi all > >Sorry to Cross Post. Guest guest
Aww Hugs! Hang in there, and I won't say anything about age. By the time I'm done having kids, people my age will be grandparents About the only thing I can think of that wasn't mentioned in your post is nipple stimulation. I never had to try any of the inducement methods since AJ decided to show up only 3 days late. (Jordan had better be on time or early....or else!) Just think, you'll kick this little one out now, and probably have to kick him/her out when they are in their 20's! Guest guest
Hi Kathleen, I had a post to send to you the other day suggesting that it sounded like time for a jasmine & clary sage massage - didn't get to hit 'send' before my pc did it's daily constitutional crash ;-) So yes, that's what I'd suggest - jasmine & clary sage, massaged around lower back & on that big belly, with a message going to AL that there's a whole family eagerly waiting for him (get 'em all massaging you !!) with lots of loving & care & would he please trust you enough to let you bring him into the world. Couple the message to AL with a message to yourself, that this wonderful little being is needing you un-stressed, relaxed & openarmed :-)) I'm sure the massage would help heaps with the unstressing !! There's far too many double S's in that paragraph *lol* Blessings (oh gawd, there's another one !) Jane :-)) Kathleen Petrides wrote: > Hi all > > Sorry to Cross Post. Guest guest
Hey all I'm going to have to start a folder: hints, advice and old wives tales for inducing labour! ROFLMAO!!! I've gotten a BUNCH, some of them are doozies!! One I had forgotten but was reminded with some of the foot reflexology hints I've received, was hand reflexology. I learned this during the massage lessons part of my Aromatherapy Course. For those of you who might be interested, we learned it as a no no! Squeeze in between Thumb and forefinger (about a 1/4 of an inch below the bridge at the top) firmly. As I mentioned before, this is a no-no if you suspect/know the client is pregnant. However, as I'm the client AND the practitioner AND time is running out, I think that it's fairly safe to do! LOL Oh! In case I didn't mention it before, I'm almost a week over due! Cheers! Guest guest
I was reading this the other day and thinking of you. Wondering if you had the baby yet. I guess not. This is the link to Susun Weed's newsletter and the part that pertains to you. I didn't copy the legal disclaimer, but I will mention as the law requires. Go to link to see all info. I do love Susan's writing. I stock her books and if anyone is interested email me. They are all discounted 20%. http://www.susunweed.com/Weed_letter_Nov-01.htm susunweed Saturday, October 13, 2001 Wife and labor induction Susun, My wife has a 10+ pound baby still inside and wants to induce labor naturally. Can you give me some natural, herbal tips or a link? Thank You. Saturday, October 13,2001 Wife and labor induction Response from Susun'sDaughter (Justine): here are a few pages from The Wise Woman Herbal For The Childbearing Year, this should help, if the baby is ready to come out and there are no other complications....Also,you will want to pick up a copy of this book if you don't have one yet...I willbe really handy in the months to come... Childbearing Yearby Susun Weed page 59 - Unripe Cervix ... Before natural labor will begin, your cervix must ripen. Your fingers can tellif your cervix is ripe. An unripe cervix feels like the tip of your nose; as itripens, it gets softer, more tongue-like. If it is necessary to initiate laborand the cervix is not ripe, these two herbs, together or as simples, willusually hasten the ripening. CAUTION: Do not put your fingers or anything elsein the vagina if the membranes are not intact. TakingEvening Primrose oil, three capsules daily for up to a week, may ripen thecervix. BlackCohosh tincture, 10 drops under the tongue hourly, will have a noticeableeffect on the cervix in three or four hours. Continue until the cervix is fullysoft and ripe. Nipplestimulation is very effective for ripening the cervix and initiating labor.Have someone else suck continually on your nipple, or roll the nipple betweenIyour thumb and finger. You may need to continue for many hours to establishregular labor. It's fine to rest during a contraction and resume stimulation asit fades. p. 60-61 Initiating labor The herbs used to initiate labor are listed here in order of increasingstrength. With the exception of Castor oil (and there is some disagreement onthat), these herbs will not be effective unless the cervix is ripe. CAUTION: Donot try to initiate labor unless the fetus is at least 37 weeks gestationalage. Getthe uterus to begin contracting by & quot;imagining & quot; that it is. Don't tryto force or push the feeling, just let it arise by itself. If your mind worriesor focuses on the problem, gently return yourself to the solution by affirmingthat labor has begun and that you will feel it very soon. As with allvisualizations, this one works well with any of the other remedies. HomeopathicCaulophyllum 200x, is reported as a good labor initiator. The dose can be repeatedevery half-hour for two hours. Laborcan be initiated by stimulating the uterus. Rub the belly softly andpersistently, with or without oil. Make an infusion of Blue Cohosh and use itas an enema. Have an orgasm. Rub and gently pinch the nipples. All are safe andeffective ways to encourage uterine contractions. Castoroil, a favorite herbal remedy of Edgar Cayce, is used internally and externallyto stimulate the uterus, soften the cervix, and help initiate labor. Rub Castoroil on the belly and cover with a warm towel if the cervix is ripe and laborseems near. Or use Castor oil as a stimulating purgative. The dosage and procedure forstarting labor with Castor oil varies considerably from midwife to midwife, buteveryone uses some form of this treatment. Two ounces of Castor oil, two ouncesof vodka, and two or more ounces of orange juice is the usual dose. This isoften followed with a hot shower. After an hour, the dose is repeated and anenema is given. The dose is repeated a third time one hour later and anotherhot shower enjoyed. labor will begin 3-5 hours after the last dose if all iswell. BlueCohosh tincture, 3-8 drops in a glass of warm water or tea, is very effectivein starting labor. Repeat every half-hour for several hours until contractionsare regular. If labor is not underway in four hours, use a dropperful of thetincture under the tongue every hour for up to four more hours or untilcontractions are strong and consistent. Homemadeor commercial herbal labor tinctures, based on Blue Cohosh and supportingherbs, are commonly used as a safe and reliable way to initiate labor. Followthe directions on the tincture bottle or take 10 drops every hour until contractionsbegin. One midwife uses labor tincture hourly and homeopathic Caulophyllum 200xevery half-hour. She says this establishes a smooth labor within five hours.Contractions build slowly when a labor tincture is used; do not discontinueuntil they become regular. See Appendix II -labor Tincture. Excerpts from ChildbearingYear by Susun Weed - invaluable for mother and baby Best of luck and I hope AL decides to join us all real soon.
