Guest guest
Hiya all, Today, after watching Mark have his tooth pulled, I had to go to our little neighborhood pharmacy (the only one that's not a chain) for prescriptions - one for pain as the danged tooth didn't cooperate and they had to " drill it out " (thought Mark was gonna faint or something and yes, I did stay in the room.. lol), and another for an anti-biotic since the Doc didn't want it to get infected as they'd had to use a couple stitches on him.. (yea, I know, anti-biotics ...grrrr). Anyways, while I was in there, I found this posted on the wall. _____________________ Warning to those who use microwaves for heating water Do NOT, under any circumstances use your microwave for heating plain water. Mr. (am leaving out the name) heated water for his morning coffee as was his norm. The water 'seemed' hot but looked to be not boiling. But - when he took the cup out, " before " he even had a chance to put anything in it, the water burst up.......out of the cup, and right into his face. Burning most of his face, it will leave permanent scarring as well as blinding him in one eye. Water, heated in a microwave contains energy - while it may not look to be boiling, when taken out, it can begin to rapidly boil and has caused many a severe burn when it literally explodes. 1. Microwaves contain energy. 2. Many do and will malfunction without our knowing it. 3. Mr xxxxx is one of 'many' who have been burned in this manner. 4. If you " Must " use your microwave for heating water, at least take the precaution of using a wooden tongue depresser or if making tea, place the teabag in first - this will tend to absorb some of the energy and help prevent a tradgedy of this type. DO NOT, use your microwave to heat plain water. ____________ Ok, thought I'd pass it along since I do/did that all the time - I've now got my tea kettle on the stove.. Don't know if anyone else was aware of this, but I sure wasn't.. thanked the lil pharmacy for posting it there........ this is the same pharmacy that we chose since they do and will help with alternative medicine and have compounding pharmacists (2) on staff - will work together with your Doctor or Vet .............. Have made non-natural jello, lol, puddings, MUSHY foods, for Mark and he's doing well.. and he's taking his " stuff " and drinking herbal iced teas. Just passing the above along.........I actually use my microwave very little, one of the things I " did " use it for was to 'nuke' cups of water for coffee/teas - and I have TWO of them! They built one in above the stove when they did the house though I didn't want it.. lol, and have the one that's about a year old that I'd bought .............<sigh> Oh, to add another insult to all this. If you have a whirlpool microwave, call their hotline #, I think it's on their web-site - some of the newer models have a recall since they tend to catch on fire - is mine one of them? Of course it is!!!!!!!!! <grin> (the one that came w/the house..., go figure!) I think they also made it under the brand Kitchen Aid - the serial number of yours ought to be just inside the door of the microwave - if you've got one of these brands, write the number down and call them - they are acknowledging liability and will fix or replace as necessary at no cost to you. Hugs, Marilyn PS - what a day...........

Guest guest
hot water..yep knewit the super heated water is there but the surface tension of the water is holding in any gas to be released. so break the surface tension and blamo volcano and it hit the faced or lips .. do not blow on the surface to cool it could erupt... pan heating super heats the bottom first and so it disperses the heat...bubbles up and boils roils and all..the first micro wave was designed to heat one cup of water to 212 deg in 60 seconds.. they'er hotter, more powerful, since then...\ jim. Guest guest
some other stuff to know. never do metal.. in the microwave.. sugars and hard dense material gets hot faster and here is one heating eggs or doing microwave eggs can result n exploding eggs.. while at it never have cinnamon buns in bear country.....just my humor and truth.. that is right wave an egg and it explodes..... once a friend of mine complained of cool or cold eggs in a restaurant and they waved them hot quick but when served he touched it with a fork and it blew up in his face....yes... so... it is tricky to use the cool tool of the micro wave.... there are also those that concern themselves with the denaturing of foods that have been waved.. interesting theories of polarity and proteins... the big Microwave n the sky treats our food more gently than the one in the kitchen or the stove any way... the idea is be gentle with the food.... or go vegan... eat em up alive... jf Marilyn Nicholson wrote: > > Hiya Jim! > > heck, I didn't knowit!
