Guest guest
Hi all, Got to L & D. They did ANOTHER non stress test, this time on my side and not my back. There were a COUPLE of Decels, so they checked the fluids. The fluids were extremely good. After trying to give me a Sweep (I am high and unfavorable), the doctor told me to come back on Monday for another non stress test (which I find extremely stressful! I am THRILLED! This was NOT the way I wanted to go into Labor (induction). Sorry for the kerfuffle earlier, They TOLD me there was no way I'd be let out...HA! Thats ANOTHER one for AL and myself! ;-) Cheers! Guest guest
Yeah! Induction; bad!! If you want to go into labor naturally (responding to an earlier post since I am behind on email), then you need to relax! When you finally let go and relax, then labor can finally start. This is why induction is so horrible, and most induced labors end in c-sections. The body is not relaxed, and usually more stressed about the induction process, and things go wrong or do not match the doctor's schedule, so you get cut. BLECH! At this point in your pregnancy, you can do some things you normally can't. For one, down as much raspberry leaf tea as you possibly can stomach! It will make the actual labor and delivery so much easier. I would suggest you stay away from the cohoshes, because they are forcing herbs. Usually they are used for natural abortion and miscarriage prevention. Used to try and bring on labor, then can cause very fast and painful (traumatic for kid) births that do some serious damage to mom. Massage will definitely help. Use whatever scent helps you relax (like chamomile, lavender, etc). You want to rub the belly from under the breast and down towards the belly button in small circles. Then from the belly button down clear to the vulva in long strokes. Perineum massage is also helpful, as it stimulates the vaginal muscles and will help to get the cervix moving. Labor will not happen until the cervix softens, so your goal should be to relax and soften eh cervix, let the kid takeover form there. Clitoral stimulation, and nipple stimulation go a long way to cervical softening. Not just sex, but orgasms. To massage the perineum, use a water based sexual lubricant and work the fingers from the bottom center of the vagina out and around and up, kind of pulling the flesh out slowly, repeating again and again. Usually this is easier to have your partner do, simply because of angle. Have some celery while you are at it (celery juice also works). Warm water, some gentle heat on the lower back (to help you not notice the pain back there so much), and the good old glass of wine trick (another relaxing thing). Walking can help to start and normalize contractions once the cervix has softened. A soft cervix is mushy like the texture of your tongue. A hard cervix will feel like the tip of your nose. Do some stretching (go slow, it sucks to have a pulled muscle during labor) of the inner thighs. Also do some hip circles. Bend the knees and circle the hips in small circles just around and around, then go the other way. This does wonders to loosen the muscles and relive tension. It also helps immensely to get the kiddo's head in the right spot and prevent back labor. And, just have others have said, visualization is a biggie. Visualize that kid being born, get the head down that birth canal. And talk tot hem, tell them that there are loved, and everything is ready for them. Also, visualize your inner place of comfort, your little perfect world. When you go there, there are no worries, no doctors telling you what to do, no problems at all. Just you being happy, and having a beautiful healthy baby. This will also go miles to relax you. You sound pretty scared about how this birth is going to go, not the way you want. That fear and dread are keeping you tense, and keeping the kid inside. Mammals naturally need a dark, safe, warm place to birth. Most mammals will actually stop in mid labor when things become unsafe in any way. So it makes a big difference. You need to feel safe in order to give birth. If you cant do it alone, put your partner in charge of protecting you while you do your job. Blessings, Soseneda Quidquid Latine dictum sit, altum videtur. In this particular area, I grew up with this sort of thing. My mom was a midwife. I watched and helped with many babies being born as I grew up. Then while I was getting my schooling, I also started on all the training and work to get my ND. I took as many classes and got as much advice as I could in the areas of herbal medicine and women's health. I still take every advantage I can think of to learn about those things. Blue cohosh is a strong herb. In general, my policy is if I cant see and touch you, and I haven't known you for a couple of months, then I recommend staying away from stronger herbs. Mainly I just don't have enough knowledge of the specific case to make a choice in that matter, and it is always better to err on the side of caution when talking about drugs. Every person is different, and every person needs a slightly tweaked formula when it comes to holistic treatment. So all I can ever do over email is give my best guess and recommend things I have seen work repeatedly on all sorts of people. Blessings, Soseneda Quidquid Latine dictum sit, altum videtur. Guest guest
Hey Soseneda " Yeah! Induction; bad!! " No..... Induction REAL REAL REAL bad! Having been there, it SUCKS! And as a VBAC candidate, I've been told it's Gel to soften the Cervix and THEN the dreaded Pit. That's it. My choice. My only choice. Sucksville. As for relaxing, Well personally I think Al is a little TOO relaxed! ;-) I don't get stressed out much, until it comes time to go for a " Non " stress test. THEN I stress out! LOL As for cohoshes, I wouldn't try them, don't know enough about them. Raspberry leaf tea? Well...still working on it. Have been working on the cervix ;-), so far I'm a fingertip (and that was a sort of " gift " and EXTREMELY long...Phhhhhtttttt. Walking! ROFLMAO!!! I've been walking so much lately I need new shoes. Today I actually had a COUPLE of contractions while walking, usually AL just dances and laughs and say's " Do it some MORE " Visualization? Right now I am visualizing " THE ALIEN " . I'm HUGE. When I was getting my Non Stress Test yesterday, the Nurse asked me if I was the one with the Twins....Nope sorry. THEN in the next cubicle, there was someone who was due on Nov 4th. I heard the Nurse telling her, " you oughta see the lady next door, she's TWICE as big as you " (I said at this point " She's also not deaf " ) As for fear this is not going to go the way I want. Dead right. I don't WANT another C-section and being this late, all the Quacks are getting nervous (especially the one that is about 12) and EVERYONE is talking about induction. If AL is happy, and I'm happy (other than impatient, tired and HUGE), why can't THEY be happy? >sigh< " You need to feel safe... " Yup, tell the medical profession to leave me alone and let me get on with it... I bet you are a terrific Midwife and will be a wonderful Doctor. My RPN (whom I was told " didn't count " yesterday GRRRRR) is a little older than I, laid back and doesn't do ANYTHING that I don't want. Everyone else seems to be rather " hands on! " >sigh< Sounds like you are a lot like her and will be a blessing for your patients. Cheers! Guest guest
Oh honey, I know it is so much easier to say than to do. Especially with Dr this and that prodding you every which way and not noticing much but the numbers coming out of the machine. Forget that the machine is hooked to a human being who is perfectly capable of communicating many things about the way she feels:) I wish I could be there to help you hon. I have done several VBACs that the hospital told them had to have induction because the kid just wasn't coming. In that capacity, I am not so much a midwife, but a friend who can stave off the doctors and the woman can relax and have fun with (we play games, paint nails, do henna, do massage, watch movies, and just enjoy being huge:). It is amazing how far some laughter and time away from worries can go to get that baby out. I wish you lots of luck, and you are in my thoughts:) And remember, even if things don't go like you want, once it is all over, you will have the most gorgeous baby in the world to cuddle. Guest guest
I have a question and not really sure if anyone can answer here......what is the reason not to use Black Cohose for menopause continuously. I have been using it for a month in a menopause formula to get the estrogin type hormone relief instead of using artifical hormone therapy cuz that makes me wacko.
