Guest guest
Lavender is the best one for his skin problem. You could mix 2-3 drops in 1 oz of aloe gel or lotion. You could also put 4 drops in his bath water. HTH Helaine
Guest guest
I have a three year old nephew with eczema, he wants very much for it to be better. I am a little nervous about eo's for a three year old, (More nervous about strong med's) So all you mom's (and dad's) any ideas? Thanking you in advance, Janet ---------- Take into account that great love and great achievements involve great risk. ---------- Janet Keene Golden M.H., L.M.T., H.At. 608.238.9442 voice 305.847.8331 fax AIM: LovingSense ---------
Guest guest
Hey Janet Well this subject was broached on Marge's list and Tony Burfield said that anyone who used E.O.'s on eczema is being irresponsible blah blah blah. Of course like you, I think steriods is a lot nastier than E.O.'s and I've had great success with mixing up a beeswax/cocoa butter salve with a bit of Lavender and Roman Chamomile. MY kids have started clearing up within 24 hours. That includes the itching redness, scalyness etc. However, there ARE other measures you can take if you don't want to use E.O.'s. Oatmeal baths come to mind. You could make the Salv WITHOUT the E.O.'s and try it that way, as it is very soothing on it's own. Don't forget the diet thing. Dairy is apparently a Wicked Witch to those with Eczema. Chris will be able to give you all sorts of information, she's a minefield. As for me. As long as the occasional use of my salve WITH the E.O. s does the trick, I'm NOT going to the Quack to get a barge load of Steroids. (Sorry for any hostility noticed, was NOT impressed with being told that I was being irresponsible for taking my childrens health into my own hands blah blah blah! ;-) Cheers! Guest guest
It sounds weird, but what I've used for eczema and just plain old dry skin is Udder creme. You can get it at a farm store. I'd like to try the beeswax cocoa butter salve though next time -- " Kathleen Petrides " <petrides5 Mon, 17 Dec 2001 18:59:14 -0800 Re: Any ideas? Guest guest
Hello Janet Oh Excema- Washing the skin with herbal infusions is helpful- sometimes the skin needs to discharge and covering with oily substances isnt helpful- then again sometimes it is- excema is a very individual thing! Infusions that come to mind are horsetail(equisetum), calendula, self- heal, plantain, chaparral(quite potent)... salves with these things may be helpful... Ive heard calophyllum inophyllum works well for excema- I havent tried it yet for that... Hydrosols are great as they are anti inflammatory and soothing- german chamomile and roman chamomile come to mind- as well as rose, of course! My son was having a skin thing and I used rose hydrosol and chaparral infused in olive oil...this was starting to work when he came to me holding a tube of " vicco turmeric cream " that he had found in the bathroom and said he wanted it on his skin- it worked wonders! There are some unkown ingredients- but the main ones are turmeric extract and sandalwood oil- it is an ayurvedic remedy. Then for kids skin- aside from all the great homemade things- is the great weleda calendula cream which in unequalled- one of the few " prepared " things I buy- love it! (It has rose EO in it) Wheat seems to be another culprit- as well as dairy for some- but I tend to think that high quality dairy like raw organic cheese and cream and unhomogenized milk do not bother many when the " ultra pasturized " homogenized hormone stuff does! Hope this helps Michelle
Guest guest
i'm a wee bit behind in my mail, but another option to consider is evening primrose or similar oils, internally. plain ole vit e is another good one. there are more in the family, i'm just brain dead tonight. anyone else know? - " Michele at Home " <mbrantner > It sounds weird, but what I've used for eczema and just plain old dry skin > is Udder creme. Guest guest
Lavender hydrolat works wonders with eczema and is so gentle. Perhaps worth trying before you move on to the essential oils. If you do I'd just use them at 1% - just in case they irritate. If you put eo's in the bath for babies and children it's a good idea to put it first into a spoonful of full cream milk (the oil will dissolve in the milk) and then there is no risk of it getting in eyes, and the risk of irritation is lessened. Hope you find something to work out of all these replies. Regards Ann - Scotland
Guest guest
You could try Tea Tree Oil I know it worked for my Mom. If you wanted, St. Ives now puts out a lotion with Tea Tree Oil in it. I hope this helps. Nytesky

Guest guest
Hi Janet, My 13 yr old gets eczema. We spray Roman chamomile hydrosol on it & have had really good luck. Sometimes we put <1/2 % German chamomile, <1/2 % lavender in carrier for a massage. Mainly, though the hydrosol is working very well -- but he hates the smell;-) Gail In a message dated 12/17/01 9:26:05 PM, janetkgolden writes: >I have a three year old nephew with eczema, >he wants very much for it to be better. >I am a little nervous about eo's for a three year old, >(More nervous about strong med's) > >So all you mom's (and dad's) any ideas? >

Guest guest
No no, Tea Tree is okay for the little ones .. but of course like with ANY EO used on kids .. it should be very very well diluted ... Even Shirley Price and Penny Price Parr mention it in their book " Aromatherapy for Babies and Children " *Smile* Chris (list mom) http://www.alittleolfactory.com Michelle Morton-niyama wrote: > Eeeek- not on a child... > - > <Nikkinak78 > > Tuesday, December 18, 2001 12:13 PM > Re: Any ideas? > > > > You could try Tea Tree Oil I know it worked for my Mom.
