Guest guest
Marianne's Story JoAnn Guest May 14, 2005 17:19 PDT ===================================================================== In 1999 I managed at last to give up smoking and looked forward to being able to do things that I hadn't been able to for many years, like lots of walks with my husband. We joined the National Trust and started our new regime of country walks as often as we could. By January 2000, I was concerned that instead of having extra breath and energy, I definitely had a lot less, unable to even climb the stairs without stopping halfway to catch my breath. After many trips to a very indifferent doctor, I was referred to the hospital cardiac department and given a treadmill ECG, which showed a problem of some sort but they were unsure what. So booked me for an Angiogram. If only I had the knowledge that I have now, they would never have gotten me into that hospital, but back then I didn't have any idea that I could actually heal all my health problems with the right diet and supplements. On May 31st 2000 I was diagnosed with narrowed arteries (atheriosclerosis), and two blockages of 60% and 80% respectively. This came as a great shock to me because I believed that other than the cigarettes, I had led a pretty healthy life. I asked the consultant if I would be able to treat this with 'alternative' therapies. He said, " Yes, but when we have you stablised " , and promptly put me onto several meds. As I was already on high BP and high cholesterol meds I started feeling very down and sorry for myself. I lived in this stupid self indulgent mood for almost 6 months and then suddenly got up one morning and decided that I did not want to be on meds for the rest of my life. I did not want to have secondary health problems from the meds that they gave me, and I decided that there had to be something better out there. I started to do a little checking on the Internet and around November 2000, I found this group (then known as the Gettingwell group). I joined and learned so much in such a short space of time, I cannot believe that it is only 3 years now, it feels like a lifetime has passed. JoAnn was pretty much my saviour, she knew so much about Heart health and would tell me all the supplements that I needed and what I should look out for, what I should be avoiding food-wise and what I should be bringing into my diet. One of the most important for me was the Olive oil issue. I had only ever used olive oil for medicinal purposes, you know those very small bottles that you purchase at the chemist (drug store) and threw out a few years later because it was cloudy and disgusting, having used 2 or 3 teaspoons in the childrens ears when they had earache or suspected wax build up. I went out and purchased my very first bottle of organic extra virgin Olive Oil - it lasted me about 3 months, today one bottle lasts me just about 3 weeks. I use only organic extra virgin, if possible unrefined oils, but 95% of the oils that I use is my EVOO - I love it and it loves me, so much so that due to abiding by the rules of good healthy food, reduced red meat intake, EVOO, and organic foods (we went organic very slowly starting in January 2001 and are now 99% organic, there is always that 1% that you are unable to get organic no matter what) I have been med free for almost 2 years now. Not bad for someone who was told they would eventually need a by-pass or angiopasty and that I would have to take drugs for the rest of my life - I took them here and there for approx 14 months and then weaned myself off them for the next 2 - 4 months. This should be done with the aid of a good practitioner but unfortunately I did not have that privilege as my doctor was totally against anything alternative or complimentary. I did try other cooking oils as well but found that they had an adverse affect on my health so have been known to throw many £'s of product out with the trash without my dear husbands knowledge I must say, he would have a heart problem if he knew the half of it LOL. I no longer have those awful butters and margarines in the house either, after all I have learned about trans fats etc., it was a very easy decision for me to make. We have an organic, trans fat free, non-dairy spread for our very little needs and lovely EVOO for all cooking and other needs. So in summary, I stopped having trans-fats, I reduced my red meat intake by at least half (I had not been a big red meat eater anyway). I took on EVOO as if my life depended on it and you know what, it probably did! I take supplements every single day, ones that are good for my particular health problems and too many to list here and I also went on a very good diet to lose the excess weight. I am still not quite where I would like to be with the weight but there is time. I have lost in the region of 32 lbs so feeling very pleased with myself. I would not however advocate the Atkins diet for anyone but especially not for anyone who has heart problems, it would be the final nail in the coffin in my humble opinion. I cannot believe that people are still advocating this diet when there has been so much in the media about the dangers of it. There was a program on the UK TV about 200 people who did one of 5 different diets. A medical doctor actually did the Atkins diet himself and after a few weeks his wife, also a doctor, actually told the viewers she would prefer that he take up smoking than carry on with this diet. At the end of the diet he had lost 28 lb I believe, but 14lb of that had been lost in " muscle mass " - something that he would never be able to recover. He will find out just how unwise he was to do this diet in a very few years time. Yes, go on a good diet regime, sometimes it just needs to be eating a smaller helping, for others it is that they need to remove certain foods from their diet, but do something now that will ensure that your old age is a a time to be enjoyed and not a time for regrets. Thank you JoAnn and everyone else who gave me such good advice in the early days. Without you I could be walking around with big scars and less hope for a healthy old age. Marianne Wilkins - UK =================================================================== Fwd: heart and diet - sorry this is a long reply angelpri- This was my response to Bonnie who has atherosclerosis and you put her my way. Marianne -- Hi Bonni, well I have done my days work so have a few minutes to answer your questions. Firstly, I know that any meds the dr's give me will do me so much more harm that they will good. That was the main reason for my looking elsewhere for alternative help when I was diagnosed with narrowed arteries (60% & 80%), high blood pressure, thyroid disfunction, high cholesterol, gallstones and I already knew that I had arthritis. At 49 it was pretty scarey and I thought that I would be dead by the age of 55 if I didn't do something to help myself. I had also been going through the menopause for 10 years or so. I started with the supplements that I had in the house as I had taken some intermittently. Then I learned more and more from JoAnn and started taking additional and different supplements. It was almost 6 months before I had gleaned the information that made me determined to get off all allopathic meds and I started by immediately stopping the cholesterol (statins) meds, these are so bad for us. The remainder of my meds I I knew I had to be careful about stopping suddenly so weaned myself off them gradually. I had major symptoms prior to diagnosis although they kept telling me that I had angina and could not understand why I kept telling them that I had no pain and therefore no angina. My symptoms were, fatty deposits around the eye depicting the cholesterol, shortness of breath on slight exertion and raised temperature several times a day, almost like a hot flash but not quite the same. I also had a rushing noise in my head when I lay down to sleep which was due to the blood pressure problem. They were threatening me with by-pass but I lied to them and told them that the pills they gave me were doing the trick and that I was doing great, that was in August 2000 - today it is true that I am doing great but I do not take any of their rotten pills and never will again if I have any say in it. If you are in the US as I suspect, then you are luckier than us UK people because you can ask your dr's to monitor you whilst you go 'alternative' - we are of the misfortune to not have to pay/have insurance for our dr's and they have the upper hand in respect of what they want to do and mine just was not interested in even talking about alternative let alone monitoring me. I honestly think that JoAnn, if she set up in business as a consultant to heart patients, would make an absolute fortune - she knows her stuff and has put me right, I can walk up the stairs many times without getting breathless, I have taken my cholesterol and it has almost halved (I was on the dangerous side of elevated LDL) I just know in my heart (not meant as a pun) that I am improving on a daily basis and I know that, if I continue to take the supplements and avoid trans fats and eat organic foods, I will surely be cured and not just 'controlled' as I would be if I took those meds. The truth of the matter is that allopathic medicine does not make you better it just controlls the problem whilst alternative supplements actually cure the problem along with a healthy diet. Cut out margarine, butter and all trans fats, up that EVOO (I get through 1 1/2 ltrs a month), take hawthorn berry, garlic by the bucket load, cayenne heart tincture, large amounts of magnesium, CoQ10, organic blackstrap molasses & Vit E, plus potassium (I am sure I have missed some but get the list from JoAnn) and you can start to look at good health again - do not let the allopaths tell you that it is irresversible as they did me - that is a blatant lie and you can unclog those arteries and you can do it in just 3 months if you listen to what JoAnn advises - I would not mislead you, I promise. I know by the major reduction of symptoms that I am very much better than I was when diagnosed in May 2000. You will know within just 1 month that you are doing your body a great service and that it is slowly healing itself, remember it took me 49 years to abuse it to the lengths that I had, I do not expect to clear all that in just a couple of months. If you want to know anything else, just want to discuss things, whatever it is, you are very welcome to email me privately and I will always respond as soon as I can. My very best wishes for your speedy recovery and to feel as healthy as I do some 2 years later. With love and light Marianne - UK ==================================================================== Natural Help for the Heart - Tue Feb 11, 2003 2:48 pm Natural Help for the Heart Hi Marianne- I was given your address by JoAnn Guest. She said that you were diagnosed with 80% blockage in your heart artery. That you followed her advic and felt a remarkable improvement. I am facing quadruple bypass surgery and am trying to figure out which is the best way to go... Which for me is no surgery. I would appreciate any thing you could tell me about the diet. How do you feel with the fact you don't know if this has changed the blockage at all????? I mean it sounds like the diet would make you feel better even if you were still blocked. I guess that is my major worry if I go diet, mineral etc. how do I know it is really working? Please write back.
