Regular multivitamins are formultated to meet the health needs of non-smokers. Smokers need to think about their nutrition differently than non-smokers because smoking puts a unique kind of stress on the body. Regular Multivitamins contain beta-carotene (Vitamin-A). If you're a smoker beta-carotene can be hazardous to your health. Two extensive medical studies, the Finnish Alpha-Tocopherol and Beta-Carotene Study, and the American Carotene and Retinol Efficacy Trial have produced compelling evidence that beta-carotene is linked to higher risk of lung cancer in smokers. These studies were intended to see if beta-carotene would be helpful in reducing the harmful effects of smoking, but the results showed the opposite. People in these studies who took beta-carotene supplements were at a higher risk of contracting cancer than the people who weren't taking beta-carotene. Smokers using a regular multivitamin should stop using it immediately and switch to Nicomate. These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration.
