Fw: Anti-War March Sept. 24th in Washington

Dear MoveOn member,

A solid majority of Americans now believe we should begin to bring

troops home from Iraq. And, despite continued calls across party lines

for an exit plan from Iraq, President Bush continues to insist on

" staying the course. " The war has drained the federal budget—forcing

us to face Hurricane Katrina with a $352 billion budget deficit1, a

degraded and de-funded Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)2 and

a third of the National Guard in affected areas deployed overseas.3 To

date, nearly 1,900 American and countless Iraqi lives have been lost,

with thousands more maimed and injured.4

Next weekend on Saturday, September 24, there is a massive " End the

War on Iraq " peace march and rally in Washington, DC organized by

United for Peace and Justice (UFPJ). The weekend of activities will

make it unmistakably clear to President Bush and Congress that the

American people want an exit plan with a timeline to end the war in

Iraq. Join United for Peace and Justice next weekend.

MoveOn.org Political Action is not part of the coalition organizing

the peace march. And among the groups organizing the rally are some

with whom we have disagreements on a range of issues. But this is a

moment when thousands of concerned and reasonable Americans from all

walks of life will come together to protest the war in Iraq, and we

know that many MoveOn members will want to be there. We believe the

Saturday march and rally will be peaceful and effective. Please

consider attending.

Also that weekend—September 24 and 25—the Green Festival comes to the

Washington, D.C. Convention Center. The festival is focused on the

'how-to' of sustainability: how to make sure the money in your

checking account is not supporting war or oppressive regimes here and

around the world, how to make your home more green, how to green your

career, how to stop climate change with simple decisions you make

every day and how to be a great parent in challenging times.
