Guest guest
Hi.. My cousin suffers from neck pain. I tried to massage it and when you hit certain areas, quite painful. Any suggestions as to what this may be, and what to do? There are two spots on each side of spine, that when you do an acupressure , it is painful , but after it is done, feels much better. I am baffled on this one. Guest guest
Hi,, you didn't say where on the spine or neck, but the painful areas may be trigger points. Check out a diagram on trigger points to see if their location matches the painful areas. Hope it helps! Peggy Pinpoint customers who are looking for what you sell. The cauasative factor will be the whole structural frame, which will need balance and mobility. If you, or anyone with similar problems, would like to email me at donmoody I will send you exercise sheets to cover both neck and balance, and you would be welcome to them. Guest guest
These are called trigger points. You will find that if you put some anesthetic there it will help relieve the pain . Heat also sometimes, helps as well as dmso. I don't know what health problem you have but apparently your muscles are being affected. medusa > On 8/27/07, Teddyberen <Teddyberen wrote: >> >> Hi.. >> My cousin suffers from neck pain. Guest guest
No idea where you are but I am in the Phoenix area. I use tuning forks for this- works well. Your cousin might want to try someone who uses tuning forks as they reach the area without pain as they simply use sound and vibration. Guest guest
Has your cousin been to see a chiropractor yet? That would be my first step, then I would apply arnica to the sore spots and massage well. Also maybe a heat pad. But first and foremost I would go to a chiropractor and get checked out. I see my chiropractor at least once a month to get " put back " LOL If you spine is out of place then your whole body suffers, including your immune system. huggs Lyndall ---- Teddyberen 27/08/2007 9:57:09 PM Neck pain Hi.. Guest guest
There are 4 cardinal diagnotic features and you must have 3 to say it is a trigger point (TrP). They are: 1. palpable nodule or band like hardness, 2. highly localized spot of extreme tenderness, 3. charateristic referred pain, and 4. local twitch response (LTR). Also anesthetic and heat do not rid you of deep TrP's maybe and thats a big maybe on skin TrP's. My suggestion is find an NMT (NeuroMuscular Therapist). medusa569 <medusa569 Monday, August 27, 2007 10:23:32 AM Re: Neck pain These are called trigger points. Guest guest
A good chiropractor will have you get xrays before they work on you. If they don't find a different chiropractor. If you don't like chiropractors see an Osteopathic Dr for adjustments and treatments. Unlike a chiropractor they are considered medical drs( they have more extensive training in the skeletal structure than most MD's and can read xrays more accurately) so they have the ability to prescribe and other options. If insurance won't pay for chiropractors, they usually will pay for Osteopaths. However disk, soft tissue injuries will not show up on and xray and require either a CT scan or MRI. Physical therapy is almost always a benefit if done correctly to treat any type of disk issue. Biofeedback therapies are non-invasive and NO manual adjustments are done on client. Energetic adjustments in both spine and cranial-sacral areas are very beneficial including the pain management and degeneration therapies involved. Then of course there are the heat and ice pack therapies you can do at home for inflammation. 20 ice, then 20 minutes heat, 20 minutes ice...several times per day. Epsom salt and lavender oil soaks are often helpful for pain managment. Guest guest
Exactly. My chiropractor required a full set of X-Rays before he'd actually do any adjustments. It took months of " work " to get me put back in place again. huggs Lyndall ---- Jenny Kernan 30/08/2007 1:28:12 PM Re: Neck Pain A good chiropractor will have you get xrays before they work on you. Guest guest
I'd have to go against the grain here. After I was diagnosed, I was told to see a chiropractor. Instead of making things better, it got worse. Only when I started Alternative Therapies e.g. Yoga and others, did I see some real changes. It was not a good experience for me, I'll tell you that for free. I'd suggest you get your cousin on a good dose of yoga and EFT. Even Energy Healing if it works for him. Cheers. Guest guest
It really depends of the qualifications and skill of the chiropractor. I have had huge success in reducing pain from injuries from the one I go to now. However; I've had chiropractors that did more harm than good and created more pain than before...when that happens...find a different one, or find an Osteopath. The one thing I do know from working with clients is that if the spine, neck and cranial sacral areas of the body are out of alignment: 1. the spinal energy flow is off, like a traffic jam of signals from the brain to parts of the body. 2. When the signals can't and don't get where they need to go...we experience a stressor and Dis-ease in the body 3. the body needs these signals for wellbeing. 4. Pain is almost always present..in most any form from mild to dibilitating. When these adjustments are made...Dis-ease and stressors are reduced and including pain, which is simply an alarm telling us something is stressing the body. Some injuries will simply hurt more for a short time after a spinal adjustment...because the tissues are used to being in a different position and stretch. When adjusted they are now pulling in a different stretch...much like being out of thier comfort zone. This is only temporary and can be helped with Heat and Ice packs. For example. I had a rib broken and out of alignment for 20 years. Having scoliosis along with it..I figured the pain was from the scoliosis. A chiropractor I went to in 2002 for injuries in an auto accident took xrays and told me it was mostly the rib being out of place. He put it back in and I thought he had broken my back. It hurt for days and I had a hard time breathing. Then one day it quit hurting. The shock of the adjustment, the breaking up of calcifications and the stress of the muscles being forced into a different stretch had all combined into one huge pain. When those things adjusted...I have felt better than ever with spinal pain since. Not even the scoliosis has bothered me and I avoided surgery for that via adjustments. When healing the body we retrace the old injury and yes sometimes there is pain, but not to the depth of the original and not as long. The body holds a cellular memory of those injuries and how the body was prior, so it can be guided back to health. I would not have been able to survive the excruciating pain I was in with a chipped c-4 last year and the whiplash if it had not been for adjustments and Biofeedback. Now I used Quauntum Biofeedback Therapies, which is also considered an alternative therapy, in addition to the occassional adjustments. Electroaccupuncture, spinal and cranial sacral programs have helped a lot. Guest guest
Here are a few suggestions. One is acupunture. They have a way to help to control the pain. Some may have some knowledge of herbs that can help with pain as well. The second is Chiropractic it will take some time. If it does not work you can always get cut. Look into the surgeries both the good and the bad of them. One way of doing it is to schedule your surgery and try my other suggestions before that time. I have a friend who also uses this for not only neck pain but for pain in hips and swears by it. You can pull it up online. I buy it at local health food store.
