Guest guest
I am having such an issue with focusing during meditation that I just get frustrated with myself and I don't continue. I would love to get advice how to get the intrusive thoughts to stop. Or how do I stay awake. Both are very irritating to me. Any advice would be appreciated. Guest guest
--Try to be passive and observe your thoughts to come and go, and try to follow your breath which will help you in focus. Guest guest
Hey, You light a candle in centre of a room which is not to be disturbed by anything. Sit down folding your legs in a posture of doing pranayam or meditation. Maintain cool. Gaze towards the candle. Concentrate on the flame of the light and try to melt your mind with the flame of light. Practice for 3 days. You will be attaining something which you have been longing for so many years. Guest guest
I have meditated at different times over the last few years and have found that the more I do it, and the more regularly I do it, I seem to have better luck. Intrusive thoughts always come in. But I just accepted them and returned my attention to the breath. I agree that it's difficult to get to the alpha state and remain awake -- our lives are so busy that we are tired! Try meditating in the morning if you can and sit in a chair or on the floor if you feel comfortable with it. Good luck! The practice of meditation has been so beneficial for me. It's definitely worth the effort. Maybe you could try accepting the thoughts as they come to you. Try not thinking of them as intrusive, but just as they exist. As a thought comes to you, acknowledge it and let it pass. You may have to do this many times during a single meditation session, but just think of it as part of the experience. My yoga teacher told me once that if you fall asleep during meditation, just accept it. Your sleep won't be the same as your usual sleep. Meditation is an ongoing practice. Don't expect anything from your meditation. Just accept it as it is. Your practice will develop into what you need it to be, not necessarily what you want it to be. Guest guest
Light a candle and use this to focus the mind. Then begin to use a mantra. You can begin with a general mantra such as So-Hum. So as you breath in; hum as you exhale. Begin out loud. Slowly. Try it at different speeds. Slower is usually better. Slow down the mantra and your breath together. As you become comfortable, let the sound get quieter until it is soft and just on the lips. After 5-10 minutes, you can let it be silent and you will hear it going on in your head. Any time you stop or lose your concentration, start over again. It is helpful to have a teacher to work with you, but not necessary. Call on Jesus, Sai Baba or anyone else with whom you are comfortable. Or just ask for someone of the light to come forward and help you to focus and concentrate. It takes time. It is best to do this at the same time and in the same place every day. Sitting on the floor is good but use a chair if you need to. Most important is to have your back erect. Shoulders are over the hips, back straight, do not lean to either side. Try to sit for 20 minutes 1 or 2x's/day using your mantra and the light. Put the candle out when you are through each time. > > I am having such an issue with focusing during meditation that I just get > frustrated with myself and I don't continue. Guest guest
> would love to get advice how to get the intrusive thoughts to stop. Hi, In response to the thoughts floating around non-stop - I have found that the best way is to acknowledge them & let them move on. With consistent practise daily these thoughts will lessen & your mind will instantly go into a trance state as you prepare for your mediatation. >how do I stay awake Sit on the floor with a cushion & your back against the wall. Or try a chair, but don't lie down & don't practise on your bed as your body knows that's where you sleep - keep your back straight! Begin with baby steps - 5 mins a day, even less - you'll slowly build up to longer. Using a candle - or any item really - is great to help you focus. Guest guest
I have had difficulty focusing when I meditate. I found that if I am grounded and meditating my meditation is more effective because I ground out the other unwanted thoughts Thomas C.
