Actually, if the mother has amnio, the DNA can be retrieved prior to birth and

sample testing can be done prior to delivery. This is possible and very viable.

I had genetic testing done because I was older when I was preggers, 37-8,

and wanted to be ready in case my child had special needs upon delivery.

 

With my heritage, Cajun/Anglo/Jewish/Amerind, a number of possible genetic

problems were ruled out by the sample retrieved by the amnio. And yes, you

find out the sex of the child also, if you so desire.
