My daughter uses albuterol for asthma when she gets a cold. Lately,

her heart pounds for hours and feels light headed. It never lasted

this long before. She is 17. I am talking with her doctor. At first

we thought it was because the albuterol was near the expiration date,

but the knew one is doing it too. Any ideas are appreciated. Thank you

This is one of the stated side effects of Albuterol. If you read the package

insert, they say that one may experience rapid heart palpitations. I cannot

give you any advice on what to do about them, but I can tell you that " flower

tea " works for asthma. We get ours from our Chinese doctor. You need to drink

about 3 cups a day for 2 weeks.

My daughter also has had asthma, and has responded amazingly to herbal

program and diet change.

Yes the Albuterol does make the heart beat fast. We switched to

Xopenex. It works the same but does not affect the heart like the

Albuterol. I feel funny mentioning a drug being a holistic educator,

but when it comes to breath, there is nothing to mess around with.

It is important to know when to make the call and get the meds going

when needed. Then the herbs will help strengthen the situation so the

meds will be needed less and less, eventually not at all.

There are wonderful herbal formulas to strengthen the lungs, I hope

she considers doing this if she is not already, so she can wean off of

these meds like my daughter and clients have been able to do.

Also breath work helps (Yoga) and as you probobly already know,

finding her triggers and avoiding them. Was she exposed to mold or

musty basement as a child? There are amazing homeopathic sprays

available for most triggers, mold, pollen, dust, dander, food

allergies, even for perfumes and building supply odors. Also for

Asthma symptoms.

I hope you don't mind me sharing this, I always consider the new

members wanting to learn more, you might already know this...

Keeping the immune system strong will help a lot. Most teenagers are

not too concerned with healthy diet and look for sugar for energy.

Their busy schedule and pressures from school and work can cause

adrenal exhaustion. This brings on more sugar cravings, mood swings,

worsens PMS symptoms, etc. Sugar also eats up the b Vitamins which

helps with stress and aids in decreasing inflammation in the lungs.

Chromium will help balance blood sugar, or pantothenic acid. A cup of

licorice tea will help the adrenal glands.

If you would like more information or have other questions, please

feel free to ask.
