Hey

I am writing because I have now soaked almonds twice for almost 36 hours both times and after rinsing them they are growing fuzz. Is this mold? I don't know what is going on. What should I do/

This fuzz is mold. Throw almonds inthe compost and start over again. Soak almonds in distilled water in an area where the sun and touch them. Soak only for 12 hours. Then use a dehydrator or dry them out by spreading them out and putting the oven on just below 105. This should do it. Don't go above 105 F. If you don't have access to either of these or want alternative ways to dry them then ask around.

You are simply soaking them too long is all and not drying them fast enough.

Okay...another question about this....

I am now soaking my almonds and will make the milk in the morning. There was some talk about discarding the water that they are being soaked in. That is fine, but then how much water would I add to the almonds before putting them into the blender and making the milk? Would I re add another 4 cups?

Thanks!

Caroline

Who will let you know how it goes over tomorrow...I'm hopingto use it in my morning coffee!!

Caroline,

Use the "soak" water. put the almonds out into the sun for 1 day. Then put "sprouted" almonds (they do not have to have anything sticking out to be "sprouted") and the soak water into the blender and blend. The ratio is 1 cup of distilled water to 1/4 cup of almonds.

You can add 1/4 tsp. of vanilla extract (optional)

You can add 2 tsp. of raw honey (optional)

You can add some maple syrup as well. I'd try maybe 2 tsp. of that if you wished. Do whatever to taste. I can tell you any of these will make it sweat enough to be a treat but not too sweat to get put off.

Yes, I used another four cup s of milk. I have so much almond milk right now; I am scared we won't drink it fast enough.

Anyway--how long will it last?

This fuzz is mold. Throw almonds inthe compost and start over again. Soak almonds in distilled water in an area where the sun and touch them. Soak only for 12 hours. Then use a dehydrator or dry them out by spreading them out and putting the oven on just below 105. This should do it. Don't go above 105 F. If you don't have access to either of these or want alternative ways to dry them then ask around.

You are simply soaking them too long is all and not drying them fast enough.

Love,

Zeb

Don't worry about it. It should stay good for a few days. I usually drink it all within two days. But worst comes to worst, freeze it.

Yes, I used another four cup s of milk. I have so much almond milk right now; I am scared we won't drink it fast enough.

Anyway--how long will it last?

Re: Herbal Remedies - Soaking almonds

hey, Zeb... is it necessary to dry the almonds after soaking if you are going to make milk from them immediately? i have been soaking them about 12- 14 hours, pouring off and rinsing then throwing them into the blender with a bit of water to get them ground then add more water to make the milk. do they grind better soft or dried?

You can use cartons from milk (just clean it out well) Orange juice, these are both paper based. You can put it in the little trays and you can pour it into baggies. You can keep it in a plastic bowl, metal bowl or some kind of Tupperware.
