Guest guest
Hello Everybody: I've been trying and trying and trying to find a group that's active and help me out a little, but every time I have it's either dead or totally taken over by spam. I've been having constipation for about a week. I've been taking laxatives and have been having bowel movements, mostly psyllium, fiber, natural, etc., but haven't been able to defecate without them. THIS HAS ME WORRIED. I'm on two other boards, healthanxiety, and hypochondriachangout. I admit I a hypochondriac/have health anxiety, particulary " carcinophobia " . But that doesn't mean I might not have some symptoms that could be serious. If you want to, or have time, you may go to these and just type in " idiopathic12 " in the search box to find my posts. I'm a universal skeptic, BUT A DESPERATE ONE. I'm overwhelmed by the vast array of " natural health products " on the market, all their " incredible " claims, their " secret, patented proprietary formulas " that their competitors don't have, AND THEIR OFTEN HEFTY PRICES. IS THERE SOME SORT OF EASY TO FIND AND USE " CONSUMER REPORTS " ON THE DIZZYING NUMBER AND VARIETY OF NATURAL HEALTH PRODUCTS BEING OFFERED ON THE MARKET----FROM A SKEPTICAL MORE OR LESS ALTERNATIVE VIEWPOINT AS OPPOSED TO A HARDCORE CONVENTIONAL ALLOPATHIC ONE WHICH WOULD JUST DISMISS ALL OF THESE PRODUCTS OUT OF HAND. (I've learned there's a theoretical/methodological war going on between the allopaths and the naturopaths that's goes to the heart of scientific method and perhaps deeper). Another question I've had for a while. Where do I find a fair but critical review, or several, of NATURAL CURES " THEY " DON'T WANT YOU TO KNOW ABOUT by Kevin Trudeau? I ordered a book titled NEW CHOICES IN NATURAL HEALING by Prevention for a rather hefty price about 10 years ago, but I found it rather insubstantial. Meaning no disrespect to various alternative healers, when I'm considerable discomfort and worried, I need something quite a bit more effective than aromatherapy or creative visualization. Is Trudeau's equally pricey volume (if you'll excuse the term from a vegetarian) meatier? Well I'll let it go at that and let you read in more detail the constipation problems I've been having. I'm a LITTLE more encourage this morning, I THINK my conditions improved, but I don't feel I'm out of the woods yet, and don't want to get my hopes up too high. I first tried to hide my identity out of embarrasment for being a hypochondriac, but as you can see, my incompetence with the internet have prevented me from doing that, so I may as well go by my real name. Somebody please let me know that you've at least glanced and this post. Thanks. James N. Dawson/Idiopathic12
Guest guest
1. What is your daily diet? 2. What do you see as a problem with taking fiber daily? 3. What is your normal transit time? How long from eating something to voiding it? Best way to check this is to eat 4 or 4 carbon capsules, then see how long before you get black stool. 4. Are you taking any prebiotics or probiotics? Both are real useful in building up proper intestinal flora needed for healthy bowel movements. Especially important if one had taken meications (such as antibiotics) which destroy healthy intestinal flora, and/or if one has eaten a bad diet with little natural fiber, too much sugar, etc. I ate a shitty diet for many years. Putting my diet back into shape, I discovered I had a very slow moving set of entrails which I used to mask with lots of caffeine to keep me refgular. I started with taking vitamin C to near bowel tolerance, added MSM to near bowel tolerance, and that gotr me regulkar, but loose with near diareaha. I then started taking take 2 kinds of fiber ( 1 heaping tsp of yerba prima colon cleanse, and another heaping tsp of inulin) twice a day. Bowel movements are now fluffy. Neither rock hard nor watery. No extrme urgency in needing to void, but when I sit on the toilet, it all flows out with no strain. I am 60. Fiber is your friend. Guest guest
Dear James, I think you should stay away from processed food, flour, cakes etc. i.e. foods which have no fibre content. Have plenty of organic salads. As you will be eating it raw it needs to be organically grown. Don't take water during a meal, keep a time gap of at least half an hour either way. When you get up in the morning, take a glass of lukewarm water with half teaspoonful of honey and half a lemon squeezed in. Instead of straining in the toilet wait outside, loiter around till you get the urge. If you involve yourself in any serious activity before you go to the toilet in all likelihood you will be loosing the urge. Try getting up before dawn and getting in around 10PM. 10PM to 5AM is the ideal time for sleeping. Try and take a water enema once a month to cleanse the colon. Don't make this more frequent. Indian psyllium is not bad, they call it Isabgol here. Try not to take any other artificial laxative. There is a preparation freely available in India called Triphala powder. It is a mixture of three very useful herbs. If you can locate it take one tablespoonful twice a day with a little lukewarm water. If you smoke or take more alchohol than necessary then curb the habits. If you stay in touch with a herbalist or naturopath you don't have to buy expensive supplements. Once your bowels become regular your phobias too will go. Wishing you all the best, Jagannath.
