minute??? ...so they can jam everything into the bill!!

Senator Frist slips drug companies immunity into Defense bill.

Grannies, you probably already know about this. I've been very busy

today and just found it. I knew they were tacking ANWR drilling into

the budget, but I didn't know about this.

DAMN!!!

Email Dear M,

Despite your efforts, late last night Senate Majority Leader Bill

Frist slipped controversial provisions into the Defense Appropriations

bill that would give drug companies sweeping immunity from being held

accountable for their actions, even in cases of gross negligence,

recklessness and even – in some cases – criminal misconduct.

Unprecedented Protections for Drug Companies

At a time when " accountability " is the watchword of the day, why

should powerful interests receive special protections? When drug

companies commit gross negligence by putting dangerous and deadly

vaccines on the market, they should be held accountable for their

actions, just like everyone else.

Drug Industry Bailout Added Despite Broad Opposition

These provisions were added despite strong opposition from a broad

array of forces across the political spectrum, including veterans' and

military groups, parents of children injured by vaccines and even

conservative organizations, who vehemently opposed this dangerous and

harmful provision.

Not the First Time

This is not the first time Senator Frist has attempted to slip into a

bill last-minute provisions benefiting his friends in the drug

industry. In 2002, Frist inserted protections benefiting Eli Lilly,

the maker of the vaccine Thimerosol, linked to childhood diseases,

into the Homeland Security bill. After a public outcry, Congress was

forced to repeal the provision.
