Guest guest
HEALTH: Soccer Champions Chelsea Sample Flavoured Organic Milk Soccer champions Chelsea are on the verge of signing up a Teifi Valley dairy farmer to supply their players with health drinks. Chelsea's nutritionist spotted the firm's Daioni range of flavoured milk drinks and trialed these with the club's millionaire stars, such as Frank Lampard, Joe Cole, Didier Drogba and Damien Duff. Laurence Harris, from Trioni Ltd, the company that produces the drinks, said: " Chelsea is sourcing as much organic food as they can. " Research at the University of Newcastle in Britain has found that organic milk was, on average, 50% higher in vitamin E and 75% higher in Beta Carotene, which are both antioxidants essential for good health. Studies finding comparable results in a wide range of foods are increasingly encouraging athletes to turn to organics in an effort to improve performance and health. Retired Australian Olympic swimmer, Regan Harrison, featured in a previous edition of the Australian Organic Journal, explaining that the nutritional benefits of organics helped to keep his body in peak condition. And in the United States an organisation called Organic Athlete (www.organicathlete.org) promotes the consumption of organic food by athletes with a number of high profile athletes supporting it. Expect to see more of our sports stars turn to organic food in the future, as the search for that one percent advantage focuses on food quality.
