Ritalin makers could face class action

Pharmaceutical company Novartis could face a class action after six

Australian children became ill after taking the drug Ritalin, which

is used in the treatment of attention deficit disorders.

Queensland lawyer Simon Harrison has claimed the youngsters, who were

aged between seven and 14, suffered heart problems and hallucinations

after taking the dug.

He says five of the children are from Queensland and one is in

Western Australia.

" We hadn't joined the dots until fairly recently when we understood

that the FDA in the USA, which is the regulatory and licensing

authority, were actually looking at this quite seriously and possibly

putting Ritalin with a black box warning, " he said.
